Summary/Objective

 

Together with engineers from the United States, Costa Rica, China, and other parts of the world, we develop connectors for the world's leading companies while utilizing Japan's design and manufacturing technology.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Make significant contributions to design of connector solutions (including but not limited to board, cable, power, high speed, and panel mount products).
  • Works hands on to identify problems during new product development and/or when quality concerns arise.
  • Adhere to all corporate engineering standards including but not limited to documentation, file management, part modeling, and part simulation.
  • Works directly with Marketing and Sales to review opportunities and develop engineering cost analyses based on Product Scopes, work directly with purchasing, quality, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, process engineering, electroplating, suppliers, and other necessary groups as a cross-functional team to design products and solutions.

Required Experience

  • 2 or more years of experience in connector design/manufacturing.
    • Component, assembly design, and manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of this.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience in design of plastic injection molding and progressive die stamping.
  • Engineering Design Software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Simulation Software: FEA, CFD/Thermal Modeling, etc. is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in the connector manufacturing industry or similar industries, with the ability to contribute immediately.
  • Understand Japan culture and be able to communicate in Japanese .
  • Be able to build good relationships with stakeholders such as suppliers and vendors in Japan.
  • Residents of Japan.

*Foreign nationals need a work visa in Japan.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in component, assembly design, and manufacturing Experience in component design, assembly design, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with simulation software (FEA, CFD/thermal modeling, etc.).
     

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • High school diploma required.

 

Training Required:

  • On the job training as appropriate.

 

Language Skills

  • Japanese: Beginner, Intermediate, Business, Native. English: Intermediate or above.

 *Japan Office operates in Japanese, but English is used for most business communications.

  • Project Leadership Experience: You will be required to calmly bring the team together amid a variety of opinions and take proactive action when reviewing designs with engineers around the world.
  • Self-Starter: The ability to take initiative, act proactively, and manage tasks independently is necessary. 
  • Teamwork: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required to work with team members worldwide. Collaborate with team members not only in Japan but around the world to share ideas, results, and technologies, and advance projects.   

 

Employment type

Permanent employee.

Probationary period 3 months (no change in conditions during probationary period).

5-minute walk from Shin-Yokohama Station on the Sotetsu Shin-Yokohama Line, Tokyu Line, Shinkansen, Yokohama Line, and Subway Blue Line

Work Hours 

9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (1-hour break). 

FLEX System.

Average monthly overtime: 10 hours or less. 

*Global meetings may occur 1-2 times per month during evening hours.

 

Salary

Determined based on previous employment and experience.

(Monthly salary includes a fixed overtime allowance for 20 hours).

Bonus: Three times a year.

Salary review system (once a year).

 

Annual holidays

125 days

Includes Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, 4 days of summer vacation, and 4 days of New Year's vacation.

 

Paid leave

10–20 days.

(10 days granted after 6 months of employment).

 

Welfare

Health insurance, welfare pension, employment insurance, retirement allowance system (applicable after 3 years of service).

Transportation expenses up to 30,000 yen reimbursed.

Process

  1. Document screening.
  2. 2–3 interviews (offline, online) *At least one online interview will be conducted in English.
  3. Aptitude test (KOLBE).

 

 

 

Samtec Japan LLC has a total of 23 employees, including an engineering team, a sales team, and customer service, administrative, and laboratory staff.
