RF Systems Engineer



At Samsung Semiconductor Inc, we are always working on innovating for the next generation wireless mobile platform architecture. As the 5G era is upon us, the commercialization of 5G radio technology in the User Equipment (UE), in addition to the incumbent 2G/3G/4G radio technologies, requires us to look for a talent who has strong background and hands-on experience in RF Systems engineering for cellular multi-mode UE, with emphasis on LTE and NR. The candidate will work closely with RFIC, Modem System, RF SW, and platform HW teams to develop the next generation platform for wireless communication systems. Candidate must be able to work across different functional teams and to present comfortably to technical audiences.




  • Analyze product and 3GPP radio systems requirements to develop RFFE and RFIC specifications
  • Analyze RF system performance using spreadsheets, Matlab, and ADS or SystemVue
  • Analyze and develop, along with modem systems, algorithms for RF BIST and calibration, RF impairments compensation, and RF enhancement techniques
  • Develop antenna array codebook generation algorithm, phased array Tx/Rx chains calibration, and beam pattern characterization methodology for 5G mmWave modules, in co-working with RFIC team
  • Support radio system lab testing of key RF KPIs and validation of key RF/Modem systems IP in the RFIC/SoC
  • Support engagement with key OEMs in providing RF systems expertise to validate requirements and sustain development with radio chipset already in production or for next generation platform
  • Support RF SW team to facilitate implementation of RF device drivers and control software for RFIC and RF Front -End components


REQUIRED SKILLS (Education, Certificates, Licenses, Travel)


  • M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, with emphasis on RF, EM, Digital Signal Processing, and/or Communication Systems; Ph.D. is preferred
  • 5+ years in systems engineering experience, with RF expertise in ‘antenna-to-modem’ wireless systems design (WLAN, Sub-6GHz cellular, mmW cellular, and Satellite applications)
  • Hands-On with modem-RF SOC system testing
  • Occasional travel including international



  • In-depth knowledge of 4G and 5G NR FR1 & FR2 cellular radio standards and carrier requirements
  • Strong knowledge of RF systems design concepts and modem dependent issues
  • Experience in translating radio requirements into RF system specifications and architecture implications
  • Hands-on experience in RF systems modeling (ADS, SystemVue, Matlab) for analyzing RF/modem systems KPIs
  • Sound knowledge of communication systems theory and digital signal processing principles and applications
  • Strong understanding of antenna phased-array theory, characterization, and calibration methods, specifically at mmWave frequencies
  • Sound knowledge of antenna tuning and antenna efficiency enhancement techniques
  • Hands-on experience with RF impairments compensation and calibration algorithms
  • Hands-on experience with ET/DPD techniques for transmitter efficiency/linearity enhancement techniques
  • Sound knowledge of multi-RATs concurrency and coexistence management approaches and related interference compensation techniques
  • No fear of going into the lab to debug and characterize RF systems issues at the radio platform level
  • Good experience in being able to co-work and succeed in a multi-functional and multinational work environment
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills
