High resolution and big screen displays have become essential parts of our daily lives. Future world is perceived to be full of displays on walls, mirrors, appliances presenting all kinds of information. In order to reach that point, however, many challenges need to be overcome.  The Samsung Display America R&D Lab, located in San Jose, California, is currently recruiting world-class engineers who share our "Innovation through Passion" philosophy and thrive in a fast-pace, results-driven environment. You will be part of the systems and algorithms team where you will work on state of the art research projects related closely to the Samsung display products alongside experts of the field. You will also collaborate with Samsung Display Korea and other Samsung R&D centers in Silicon Valley and around the world.


The qualified individual will be a hardware lead responsible for research and development of a wide variety of


(1) state-of-the-art prototype experimental imaging cameras

(2) image processing accelerators built in FPGA

(3) digital logic design and implementation for advanced image sensors


Prototype camera systems may include 3D and/or cameras, firmware for such embedded cameras. Image processing accelerators may handle advanced and deep learning-based image processing algorithms including state-of-the-art image/object recognition, image/video understanding, and others. Digital design for advanced image sensors may include circuit simulation and implementation.


Responsibilities include:

-          FPGA programming and digital circuit design using Verilog

-          Camera system design and bring-up

-          PCB board design using PADS

-          Camera debugging, characterization and testing

-          Development, implementation of image processing and object recognition algorithms, e.g. for visual recognition

-          Working closely with software engineers to optimize image processing algorithms and their implementation in hardware

-          Writing patent disclosures

-          Demo system setup and evaluation



  • MS degree in engineering area with 5 years of industry experience minimum
  • Expert in Verilog, digital design simulation, synthesis and implementation
  • Expert in hardware bring-up, debug and troubleshooting
  • Critically, must be a quick learner, able to continuously absorb, make sense of and put to immediate use large amounts of engineering information
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be motivated and able to work without supervision
  • Some travelling to Korea headquarter is required


  • Experience in embedded development
  • Experience in camera debugging and characterization
  • Experience in PCB design
