JOB ANNOUNCEMENT 

Sacred Heart Community Service, located in San José, CA is looking for a multifaceted Program Director to lead, develop, innovate and integrate programs that stabilize individuals and families facing severe economic hardship while creating opportunities for our members to get involved to change the conditions in their lives. Position Summary

The Family Assistance Director provides leadership in SHCS’ efforts to develop, manage, evaluate and improve programs that provide direct financial assistance and supportive services to stabilize families under financial distress, prevent homelessness and displacement, and help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed. These services include information and referral, individualized assessment, temporary financial assistance, case management, housing search, client advocacy, support in accessing and navigating public benefits and community resources, and follow-up services. The Director oversees efforts to engage members in community organizing and policy advocacy initiatives such as those related to affordable housing, tenant rights, and homelessness. The position provides direct supervision and training to a diverse program area, serves on the senior management team of SHCS, and acts as a liaison with external collaborations and funding entities.

Description of Duties

Program Leadership (65-80%)

Leads program design, implementation, and evaluation of emergency financial assistance and homelessness prevention strategies in alignment with SHCS Strategic and Operations Plans. Oversees the development, reporting, and analysis of program goals, outcomes, and team performance metrics.

Provides structure, supervision, training, evaluation and professional development for SHCS’ Family Assistance team.

Oversees the recruitment and hiring of program staff, interns, and volunteers.

Leads efforts to ensure extensive member involvement and leadership development to implement the program and impact policy change, including recruitment, training, and committee development.

Facilitates the development, implementation and continuous improvement of systems, policies and procedures, standards, and training for case management and leadership development practices.

Ensures strong communication, coordination and integration with SHCS programs.

Provides leadership in efforts to initiate, develop, support, and direct collaborations with public and non-profit organizations designed to address and prevent homelessness, displacement, and financial insecurity such as the Homelessness Prevention System and Emergency Assistance Network.

Supports research and analysis of regional and local trends in the use of evidence-based practices and data driven outcome measures as they apply to homelessness prevention and anti-displacement

 

 

strategies.

Supports the direct implementation of programs as needed.

Oversees and supports staff in outreach, training, supervision, and surveying of program volunteers and interns

Administrative & Development (10-15%)

Leads efforts to identify prospective program funders, and provides support for the development of proposals and solicitations to government, foundation, and corporate funding sources.

Ensures contract negotiation, grant administration, compliance, and reporting.

Supports the development and presentation of data, performance narratives, case studies, and reports to funders and institutional stakeholders on program efforts and impact.

Develops, tracks, and manages program budgets.

Leadership (5-10%)

Supports the planning and implementation of SHCS programs, events, training, policy campaigns, and outreach efforts.

Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team and serves as on site manager as needed. Acts as a “mandated reporter” by maintaining strict adherence to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Law.

Attends Board of Directors meetings and Board committee meetings as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Strong commitment to our vision of uniting community to ensure every child and adult is free from poverty;

5-7 years of experience in human services, social work, public health, community organizing, or related field.

2-3 years of program management experience.

Four-year degree in human services, social work, public health, or related field or equivalent experience.

Demonstrated understanding of effective, data-driven strategies and methods to address homelessness and displacement.

Knowledge and understanding of public resources and funding of anti-poverty programs. Ability to work with diverse community and organizational groups.

Experience with culturally competent social work, economic development, or education programs. Ability to multitask, provide quick responses and remain highly organized.

Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Knowledge of program development and outcomes-based planning and evaluation. Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Excel and client database systems.

Must be insurable under the organization’s driving insurance requirements.

Must complete a DMV and criminal background check.

Preferred

Master’s degree in social work, public health, or related field.

Bilingual/biliterate English and Spanish or Vietnamese or Mandarin.

Experience in public policy advocacy, community organizing, or public administration. Demonstrated program evaluation background.

 

Compensation

Position is exempt, full-time and reports to the Associate Director.

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience. Salary range is $105,000-$115,000 per year. Benefits including: medical, dental, paid holidays, sick time, professional development and more.
