Consulting Systems Engineer--Security

The Security Sales Engineer is a pre-sales position that provides technical expertise in solution design for our customers. This involves identifying where customers are exposed and may have risk, then scoping solutions to mitigate that risk at the maximum possible value.


The Security Sales Engineer supports sales productivity and deal flow by designing security solutions and achieving the “technical close” in complex solutions. The SSE collaborates with sales, service, engineering, and vendors to provide technical support resources which will ensure proposed deals include technical solutions that accurately address customer needs and are supported by key customer technical decision-makers.  The SSE will, in a limited fashion, implement security technologies and execute a limited set of security consulting services. They will also be called upon to help assess new technologies.


The Security Sales team is largely Cincinnati, OH based, but members may contribute remotely from other locations close to a major airport. RoundTower’s customer base is generally based on the East Coast or Midwest US, so those location would be preferable.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be conversant of, and articulate RoundTower’s solution portfolio
  • Coordinate closely with internal sales, sales support, and service resources to align solution design with customers’ business requirements
  • Work deals assigned to the sales team, prioritizing effort based on maximizing total impact on team productivity and profit
  • Perform pre-sales technical support on security opportunities
    • Be the security SME
    • Gather technical requirements, perform scoping and design services & review process and level of effort input related to your areas of expertise
  • Adapt solutions, as necessary, to ensure appropriate support
  • Experiment with new security products and determine their value  
  • Secure commitments from customer technical staff needed to ensure a deal’s “technical close.”

Required Skills and Experience

  • Have strong written and verbal communication, with solid presentation skills
  • Have a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree, or equivalent work experience 
  • Be an IT generalist
  • Proficiency in Linux / Windows
  • Have 5-7 years working in IT Security
  • Desire to travel
  • Hands-on experience working in some the following areas:
    •      Endpoint technology (AV, Whitelisting, Forensics)
    •      Network IDS/IPS/Firewalls
    •      Privacy & Compliance/Risk Assurance frameworks (PCI, FFIEC, HIPAA, GDPR, etc.)
    •      User Access Control (two-factor auth, privileged account security)
    •      Data Protection (encryption, HSM, etc.)
    •      Application Security (static analysis products, code analysis, etc.)
    •      Incident Response, Red/Blue Team
    •      Policy Development
    •      SIEM / Analytics / Detection


Desired Skills and Experience


  • Vendor experience with the following a big plus (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Okta, Thycotic, Varonis, Trend Micro)
  • Deep understanding of Windows and/or Linux system internals
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH
