Title: Research & Development Technician

Position Summary: The Research and Development Lab Technician works within the R&D team and supports innovative activities, including laboratory scale batching, documentation control, and general lab support. The ideal candidate must be able to show a proven track record of accuracy, have excellent hands-on laboratory skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, and have a keen eye for detail. They will be self-motivated, solution-focused, highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to work autonomously.

 

Core Functions of the Position:

  • Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment regularly
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, including cleaning, trash removal, and glassware washing.
  • Assist chemists with preparing documents, filling and labeling samples, and general project support.
  • Prepare laboratory-scale batches according to established formulas and written instructions.
  • Collaborate with R&D Chemists during product development phase communicating relevant findings.
  • Perform laboratory tests such as pH, viscosity, specific gravity, and other analyses as assigned.
  • Weigh, measure, and mix raw materials while adhering to safety, SOPs, and GMP requirements.
  • Document results accurately, maintain complete laboratory records, and adhere to regulatory and quality guidelines.
  • Assist with scale-up testing and support production transfer when needed.
  • Participate in the formulation and preparation of prototype skincare and haircare cosmetic and OTC class products, including emulsions, gels, serums, cleansers, and color cosmetics.
  • Follow all Company SOPs, safety procedures, and GMP standards.
  • Conduct product stability testing and record observations throughout study timelines
  • Manage incoming raw material inventory and appropriately organize required documentation.
  • Perform assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction


Education/Job Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Chemistry or related Science fields required.1-2 years of related experience desired.

 

 

Required Skill Sets:

  • The ability to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations and demands.
  • An understanding of lab protocols & safety procedure
  • Bench experience in personal care industry preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instruction and comply with procedures related to quality, safety and security.
  • Strong data entry and computer skills with attention to detail, proficient in use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to work productively and independently in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and analytical skills such as precision weighing, dilutions.
  • Capable of lifting/moving < 25 pounds.

 

Reporting Relationship:

This position will report directly to the Manager of Research and Development.

 

Location

This position full-time in person in Berkeley, CA

 

Salary Range: $57,600 - $63,000
  
The pay range represents the low and high end of the salary range we reasonably expect to pay for this position at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, to geographic location, experience, education, skills, qualifications, performance, and business or organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of Rodan + Fields’ total compensation package for employees.
