Mechanical Shop Material Handler
Schedule: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Location: Aurora – Lewiston

At RK, our Mechanical Shop Material Handlers play an important role in keeping fabrication operations running safely, efficiently, and on schedule. From receiving and organizing materials to preparing parts for fabrication and staging assemblies for shipment, you'll help ensure our teams have what they need to build high-quality mechanical systems.
You'll work closely with craftspeople, welders, fitters, quality control, and supervisors to move materials through the shop and warehouse. You'll also help prepare completed assemblies for shipment to jobsites, ensuring materials are properly handled, documented, and ready for the next step.
This is a hands-on role where reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic make a direct impact on production.
What You'll Lead
- Receive, inspect, and identify incoming materials and equipment
- Coordinate material off-loading with craft teams and Quality Control
- Store materials in designated areas according to storage and handling requirements
- Issue materials based on field requisitions and direction from craft foremen or supervisors
- Maintain accurate documentation and inventory records for material transactions
- Review paperwork for accuracy and correct errors as needed
- Move materials throughout the shop, warehouse, storage yard, and worksite using hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, and other equipment
- Locate, organize, and prepare materials for outbound shipment
- Coordinate shipment loading and complete required documentation
- Identify materials and items being received or shipped to ensure accuracy
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe storage areas and report issues to the supervisor
- Assist with directing crew members during daily tasks and special projects
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor
What You Bring
- Ability to follow established processes, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Ability to work independently while receiving direction from supervisors
- Working knowledge of trade materials, tools, and equipment
- Ability to accurately complete and maintain documentation
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and hand trucks
- Reliable, team-oriented approach to supporting shop and fabrication operations
- Previous material handling experience is helpful but not required
- A valid Motor Vehicle Report may be required for jobsite deliveries
What You Bring Physically
This is an active, hands-on position in a fabrication and warehouse environment. The role may require you to:
- Work indoors and outdoors in dusty, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments
- Work in high, tight, confined, or otherwise challenging spaces
- Climb, balance, squat, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical movements
- Work in a variety of weather conditions
- Lift and carry materials weighing 51–75 pounds occasionally
- Frequently handle materials requiring 31–45 pounds of force
- Constantly handle materials requiring up to approximately 16–22 pounds of force
