Position Overview
RIVA Solutions is seeking a System Engineer IV (Apple macOS System Administrator) to support the NOAA Global Systems Laboratory (GSL) in Boulder, CO. This role will be responsible for the design, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of Apple hardware, macOS systems, and associated peripherals. The System Engineer will also assist with end-user support and collaborate with IT peers to implement scalable, future-proof architectures that support NOAA’s scientific computing mission.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support and helpdesk ticket response for macOS users
  • Manage system builds, image creation, software patching, and OS upgrades
  • Design, configure, and implement macOS devices within the enterprise
  • Support Google Apps for Government (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Voice, Meet, etc.)
  • Update documentation, procedures, and user support resources
  • Assist with inventory processes and asset management
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to assess and support evolving IT needs
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of macOS architecture, security, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with MDM tools (Jamf, Mosyle, Munki, ABM, etc.)
  • Ability to create automation tasks and policies for operational support
  • Ability to provision and re-provision systems efficiently
  • Knowledge of Smartcard (HSPD-12) authentication on macOS
  • Familiarity with configuration baselines (DISA STIGs, USGCB, etc.)
  • Strong command-line experience (Mac Terminal/Bash)
  • Experience with enterprise patching strategies and tools
  • Ability to support 100+ macOS systems in a semi-automated environment
  • Familiarity with security tools such as McAfee, Nessus, or Trellix
  • Understanding of Active Directory and Entra ID integrations
  • Familiarity with Apple deployment tools like Apple Configurator
  • Strong customer service and technical communication skills
  • Adaptability to evolving Apple ecosystem tools and methods

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent work experience)
  • Proven experience in macOS system administration and direct user support
  • Experience with JAMF, ABM, or similar enterprise Apple support tools
  • Apple certifications (Apple Certified IT Professional, Apple Certified Support Professional) preferred
  • Experience supporting Linux (Red Hat or other distros) is a plus

Salary
Up to $140,000 (based on experience)
