Program Overview
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) leads critical efforts in weather prediction, climate monitoring, and environmental stewardship. Under the National Environmental Information Technology Services (NEITS) program, RIVA Solutions provides enterprise IT support and modernization services that strengthen NOAA’s mission capabilities. Through NEITS, RIVA delivers reliable and secure technology infrastructure—including network, cloud, and application services—that underpin NOAA’s data-driven scientific operations worldwide. This position supports the continued rollout and sustainment of Aruba-based wireless technology across NOAA’s enterprise environment.
Position Overview
RIVA Solutions is seeking a Network Support Engineer (Aruba) to provide post-implementation support and customer assistance for new Aruba network deployments under NOAA’s NEITS program. This mid-level role works closely with senior engineers and NOAA stakeholders to troubleshoot, monitor, and sustain enterprise wireless services following implementation. The Network Support Engineer will handle day-to-day user support, configuration assistance, and issue escalation while ensuring the reliability and performance of newly implemented Aruba systems. This position is onsite in Washington, DC, with shift coverage from 10 AM to 6 PM (Monday – Friday). A second shift engineer provides coverage after 6 PM.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as a Tier-2 support resource for post-implementation Aruba wireless network environments.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve connectivity and performance issues for end-users and network devices.
- Escalate complex or systemic problems to senior engineers or OEM vendors, ensuring timely resolution.
- Collaborate with implementation and engineering teams to validate configurations, patches, and firmware updates.
- Monitor network performance, identify recurring issues, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support campus and remote access point (AP) deployments and ensure proper operation of Aruba Central and controller-based systems.
- Manage and validate authentication methods such as certificate-based access, SSO, guest access, and MAC authentication.
- Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, configuration changes, and troubleshooting steps in accordance with NOAA and RIVA standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to NOAA end-users, communicating clearly and professionally through all support interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 4–6 years of hands-on experience in network support, help desk, or system administration roles supporting enterprise IT environments
- Familiarity with Aruba wireless solutions (controller-based and cloud-based architectures)
- Knowledge of network troubleshooting tools and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, IPv6)
- Strong customer service and communication skills for interacting with federal users and technical teams
- Ability to work the 10 AM – 6 PM shift (Monday – Friday) and coordinate handoffs with after-hours coverage
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting NOAA or other federal science and technology agencies
- Familiarity with NIST and FISMA standards related to network operations and security
- Certifications such as Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA), CompTIA Network+, or ITIL Foundation
- Experience supporting post-deployment validation and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities
Salary
Up to $120,000 a year (based on experience)
