Director of People & Culture
 
Position Overview 
The Director of People & Culture will oversee a wide range of strategic employee and cultural development initiatives and HR business processes that are critical to the growth and success of RIVA. From Performance Management to Benefits Administration to the contributions and nurturing of the RIVA Employee Experience (REX), the individual in this role will report into the COO while working closely with the numerous key stakeholders at RIVA, including our senior leadership team, to deliver world-class programs for our employees.
Additionally, this person oversees a team of 2 HR professionals while serving as the People & Culture department lead. This is a highly visible role that impacts the entire business by engaging and influencing leaders across the company.
This truly is a unique role that requires someone who has operated in a variety of HR roles and has deep understanding of both fundamental HR operational tasks and the acumen to understand and build real HR strategy to scale and drive the business.
Your Role and Impact
 
Leadership
  • Lead a team of 2 HR Business Partners who manage the day-to-day support of the business and operations of the P&C function.
  • Service as the Corporate HR Business Partner, providing guidance to our senior leadership team on a variety of issues.
 Performance Management 
  • Assist in the development and delivery of RIVA’s Performance Management Process, utilizing industry best-practices to create a simple and effective way to measure employee performance.
  • Evaluate and assess updates and improvements for a project and communications plan for Performance Management, ensuring stakeholders and contributors are aligned and fully supportive ahead of any change implementation.
  • Lead Performance Management training, among many other training sessions, with the support of the HRBPs.
  • Track Performance Management compliance throughout the year and intervene when leaders are not fully engaged and completing required goal setting and performance check-ins.
RIVA Employee Experience (REX)
A continued focus for RIVA in 2025, RIVA Employee Experience (REX) consists of the following 4 phases:
    1. Recruiting – Your experience with Talent Acquisition and Hiring Managers
    2. Onboarding – Your experience with your Onboarding Buddy and in New Hire Orientation 
    3. Employee Engagement Development – Your experience with leadership in how you plan and achieve performance and career development objectives as well as participating in committees and corporate projects that support company growth and help our community.
    4. Post-Employment – Whether you leave RIVA for a better opportunity or even retire, taking the great experiences you had in Phases I-III and using your connection to RIVA to refer colleagues to the company and stay connected via our Alumni Program.
 Each phase of REX process needs to fundamentally evolve and possibly improve to create a truly exceptional and differentiated experience for our people. To deliver REX, you will:
    • Recruiting: Collaborate with our Talent Acquisition Director and senior leaders to develop and deliver a thorough yet expedient Job Candidate Experience where candidates feel valued and experience respectful and effective interviews.
    • Onboarding: Maintain and improve Onboarding Buddy processes to provide new hires with an experienced RIVA employee who can help them navigate their first several weeks with the company. Additionally, assess the current New Hire Orientation process and make any necessary changes to improve it.
    • Employee Engagement and Development: Lead the Performance Management Process as mentioned previously. In 2025 contribute to building Learning and Development curriculum focused on the career development and training of all staff. Lead the rollout of our annual Great Place to Work employee engagement survey and team with senior leaders to create action planning from the survey results.
    • RIVA Alumni Program: Create a formal Alumni Program that maintains communication and outreach with former employees.
Compensation & Benefits Administration
  • Administer RIVA’s Employee Benefits Program, leading our annual renewal process with the support of the HRBPs and our broker.
  • Continuously create a competitive and differentiated benefits program by evaluating competitors and market data.
  • Provides guidance to HRBPs in solving employee benefits issues.
  • Advise leaders in our annual compensation review process as well as in periodic promotions and market adjustments.
Proposals and Business Development
  • With the TA Director, support both the writing of Recruiting and Retention Strategies for RIVA proposals and the pricing of positions.
  • Ensure that RIVA is effectively represented in proposals for all the employee programs and experiences we offer.
Employee Relations
  • Serves as the Corporate Office HRBP and works with corporate leadership to resolve employee relations issues.
  • Provides guidance to HRBPs in managing their employee relations issues.
 Qualifications
 
The ideal candidate will have: 
  • Must be in the local DMV area to work in a hybrid setting occasionally coming into the office located in McLean, VA. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • 10+ years as in an HR Business Partner with “hands-on” experience in talent management, employee relations, performance management, HRIS (preferably UKG), payroll, benefits administration, change management, training, and career development.
  • HR Leadership experience in Government Contracting.
  • Excellent executor of large-scale programs and think end-to-end about the work to be implemented.
  • Demonstrate strong intuition for business and know how HR and talent strategies can drive business results.
  • Ability to connect and integrate HR priorities and services to ensure flawless, aligned, and scalable service delivery.
  • You are a problem solver and have proven independence, autonomy, and accountability when carrying out your work, even in the face of ambiguity or limited precedent.
  • Proficient in change management and understand key points of engagement, communication, and influence.
  • You have an inherent curiosity about interpreting data, recognizing trends and themes, and collaborating with the business using measures and results.
  • Effective collaborator who easily establishes relationships with HR colleagues and business partners to deliver results.
  • Experience working for a global technology company and experience supporting customer-facing or commercial teams, preferred.
  • Experience with core HR functions including compensation, benefits, job analysis.
Salary Range: $120,000k - $150,000k DOE
