Engagement Overview
RiskSpan is seeking a Business Analyst to serve as an embedded consultant within a major Government-Sponsored Enterprise’s (GSE) Finance Services division. The role supports the Capital and Regulatory Reporting function, acting as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams. The ideal candidate combines a strong accounting and financial services background with hands-on data analysis skills to ensure accurate capital calculations, regulatory compliance, and efficient business operations.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Business Analyst embedded within the client’s Capital and Regulatory Finance team, you will serve as the primary liaison between business units and technology groups. Your responsibilities will include:
· Developing and documenting detailed business requirements by partnering with subject matter experts, translating high-level business needs into actionable specifications for technology teams.
· Sourcing, validating, and profiling accounting and financial data used to generate capital results, ensuring data integrity across upstream and downstream systems.
· Performing data analysis and profiling using SQL to independently verify data quality, reconcile results, and support decision-making.
· Supporting user acceptance testing (UAT) for system enhancements, regulatory changes, and production releases, including the creation of test plans and defect tracking.
· Managing day-to-day business operations for capital and regulatory reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate production cycles.
· Navigating cross-functional stakeholder relationships independently, proactively engaging business and technology counterparts to gather information, resolve issues, and drive deliverables forward.
· Translating regulatory requirements—including Basel III endgame and ERCF capital rule changes—into system and data requirements that can be implemented by development teams.
· Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for requirements, business rules, test plans, operational procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
· Identifying process improvement opportunities within existing capital and reporting workflows and recommending solutions.
Required Qualifications
· 5+ years of professional experience as a Business Analyst in financial services, banking, or a GSE environment.
· Strong accounting background with working knowledge of derivatives, hedge accounting, and financial reporting concepts.
· Proficiency in SQL for data querying, analysis, validation, and profiling.
· Knowledge of capital frameworks (Basel III, ERCF) or regulatory reporting requirements.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear requirements documents, presentations, and status reports.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, connect disparate data points, and drive issues to resolution with minimal oversight.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
· Local to the Reston, VA / Washington, D.C. metro area with ability to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week in Reston.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience working within a Government-Sponsored Enterprise (Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac) is strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with GSE capital and finance systems, organizational structures, and internal processes.
· Experience with secondary mortgage market operations, securitization, and structured finance.
· Proficiency with Jira or similar Agile project management tools.
· Experience with user acceptance testing (UAT), requirements traceability, and SDLC/Agile methodologies.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for stakeholder presentations.
