Network Operations Specialist

Innovation & Technology Portland, Oregon

Description

Position at Portland Trail Blazers

Become a part of the team behind the team.

As employees of the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Quarter, we do more than basketball. We are blazing trails toward winning championships on and off the court.

We are pioneers and innovators. We look for people who push boundaries, who dream, who are committed to inclusivity – who want to contribute to Rip City!

As our Network Operations Specialist, you play a key role in maintaining the Rose Quarter, Annex, and Practice Facility wired and wireless networks to ensure efficient network operations. From everyday monitoring to gameday troubleshooting, you’ll be the go-to expert who keeps our teams, staff, and fans connected when it matters most.

Our ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and curiosity to everything they do. You’re comfortable in the weeds of enterprise networking – configuring switches and routers, and diagnosing problems most people wouldn’t know where to start on. You’re a critical thinker who stays calm in a live events environment and enjoys the challenge of solving tricky technical problems. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Maintain and support corporate Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), wireless, and firewall infrastructure.
  • Configure, install, upgrade, and troubleshoot network switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls.
  • Monitor network performance and respond quickly to hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Administer and support enterprise wireless infrastructure across all facilities.
  • Maintain and support campus network cabling infrastructure, including copper and fiber.
  • Support the administration of network security technologies, including firewalls, VPN connectivity, network segmentation, and access controls.
  • Parter with cybersecurity team on vulnerability remediation and security initiatives.
  • Provide on-site network operations and troubleshooting for NBA games, concerts, and special events.
  • Resolve network-related trouble tickets in collaboration with the Service Desk.
  • Support network infrastructure projects, including equipment installations, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Coordinate with vendors during installations, maintenance windows, and support activities.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, asset inventories, and technical documentation.
  • Help develop and improve operational procedures and technical documentation.
  • Recommend improvements to network performance, reliability, and security.

WE’D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU:

  • Have experience with enterprise networking platforms (e.g., HPE ArubaOS-CX, Aruba Wireless, Cisco IOS).
  • Have experience configuring and troubleshooting networking equipment (switches, routers and firewall).
  • Have a strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts (routing, switching, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, VPNs)
  • Can troubleshoot complex network issues using diagnostic tools
  • Have experience supporting copper and fiber cabling infrastructure and telecommunications systems
  • Have strong documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Communicate clearly, both in writing and in person
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively within an IT team
  • Comfortable supporting live events and staying effective under pressure

WE’D BE THRILLED IF YOU ALSO HAVE:

  • Enterprise wireless or firewall experience
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles and network security best practices
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and network monitoring platforms
  • Experience participating in infrastructure implementation projects
  • Experience with Cato Networking
