Are you passionate about helping others and managing programs that benefit your community?   The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) wants you to apply to be our Community Engagement Intern.  We participate in a variety of community engagements and outreach that encourage public participation and build community partnerships for our agency.

 

As a Community Engagement Intern, you will:

  • Collaborate with the Engagement team to plan and implement meaningful UTA participation in events and outreach opportunities.
  • Provide support and UTA representation at events throughout the service area, to include facilitating event supplies, set-up, and take-down.
  • Support internal and external volunteer recruitment for events and outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain inventory of event supplies.
  • Identify transportation issues and needs of the community and works to represent those needs internally at UTA.
  • Promote and support community use of transit and system stewardship and ownership through outreach, education, and engagement.
  • This will be a part-time internship, with a schedule of 20 hours/week. Evening and weekend hours are required.  It is expected to last roughly 6-8 months. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, seeking at least an undergraduate degree in Communications, Sociology, Community Health, or a related field
  • Must have at least a 2.0 GPA. (Must submit a transcript of grades and two letters of recommendation.)
  • Previous experience with community outreach and event planning and implementation is a plus. The ideal candidate is one who is fluent in English and Spanish languages (or other language).
  • Driver’s License preferred, but not required.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Demonstrated experience/skills in public relations and customer service. 
  • Understanding of community engagement, public involvement, planning principles or related expertise
  • Professional drive and enthusiasm for new challenges
  • Interest in how transportation and transit can enhance people’s quality of life.
  • Community-minded and interest in working with/talking with diverse communities.
  • Reliable and self-directing
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Enjoys meeting and interacting with people.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Word preferred.

Pay Rate:$18.57 per hour
