Job Summary

 As a Body Shop Journeyist your main responsibilities will be making complex repairs on all UTA vehicles, including, but not limited to body and paint work, fabrication, and training other employees with new skills.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Diploma or certificate from a two-year technical school in mechanical trades or one and a half years of related trade school experience or equivalent apprenticeship program training I-car or ASE accepted
  • Able to acquire welding certificate including mig, aluminum, and stainless welding
  • Able to acquire forklift sit-down counter balance certification (UTA provided)
  • Able to acquire crane certification (UTA provided)
  • Knowledgeable in fiber glass and composite repairs
  • Have required tools
  • Able to acquire and maintain DOT physical card
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly and over 51 lbs occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawl and lay on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely work at heights above 16 feet, and constantly aware of surroundings
  • Able to acquire and maintain Roadway Worker Protection Certification
  • Able to acquire and maintain Blue Flag Worker Protection Certification
  • Able to acquire and maintain UTA Wayside Power Certification
  • Make complex repairs on all UTA vehicles using various mechanic's tools
  • Rebuilds and fabricates components with little or no supervision
  • Teaches and/or assists employees of lesser skills in developing their skills and high standards of competence
  • Have a valid Utah Driver’s License
  • Be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years
  • Cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years


EXPERIENCE

  • Three years previous work experience in the body industry or related trade school experience or equivalent apprenticeship program training
  • Experience in applying vinyl, striping and graphics
  • Experience and certification in automotive and industrial painting
  • One year welding experience, must have welding/plasma cutting experience
  • One year Fabrication experience


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Able to pass the Class A Body Shop exam
  • Extensive design and fabrication, body work, and paint skills
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Understanding of electrical and pneumatic schematics for multimodal transit vehicle systems
  • Knowledge of CNC machine equipment preferred
  • Able to complete estimates and accident repair estimates


ABILITIES

  • Safety conscious at all times
  • Work closely with others in a team environment
  • Able to perform all aspects of safe and proper painting procedures
  • Able to work unsupervised 

This job requires regular and predictable attendance

Pay Rate:
$35.57 per hour
