Maintenance of Way Supervisor (Rail Systems)

JOB SUMMARY
Are you a passionate Maintenance Technician with a talent for team development and management? The Utah Transit Authority wants you for our Maintenance of Way Supervisor. In this role, you will lead and supervise a team of Maintenance of Way Line & Signal Technicians as they maintain our signal systems, crossing protection, power components, power substations, etc., helping UTA provide safe and reliable public transportation.
As a Maintenance of Way Supervisor for UTA, you will:
- Be responsible for Maintenance of Way (MOW), including all necessary repairs and preventive maintenance for signal systems, grade crossing protection, and traction power components, including power substations and the overhead catenary system (OCS) of the UTA rail system.
- Supervise MOW personnel and coordinate work activities.
- Ensure maintenance is completed timely and as efficiently and effectively as possible to avoid disruption of service to customers.
- Ensure new MOW employees are qualified and trained in proper methods, and perform assigned responsibilities in a safe, acceptable manner.
- Train and update assigned staff on technology changes to equipment to ensure continued safety and soundness of the signal and traction power systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree required
- Three years previous work in signal, traction power, or closely related field (must be at Journeyist or Class A level of competency), with advanced electrical and electronics applications.
- One year job-related, demonstrated progressive competence in supervising technicians in areas of signal, traction power, or closely related repairs.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain Class A CDL and DOT Medical card within 60 days of employment.
- Must have a valid Utah Driver’s License. Must be a safe driver with no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years. Must have no violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Principles of supervision, training, motivation, coaching, and counseling.
- Advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory and principles. Diagnosis, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of signaling and traction power components. Preventive maintenance practices. Maintenance/electrical tools and equipment including vehicles, machinery, and electrical systems.
- Demonstrated competence with computer systems and operation including basic proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Communicate with supervisors, co-workers, customers, and maintain good interpersonal relations both orally and written.
- Perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds regularly and over 51 pounds occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawling and laying on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely work at heights above 16 feet, and stay constantly aware of surroundings.

Pay Rate: $87,696.96 or more dependent on experience
