Job Summary
Responsible for preventive maintenance, inspections, and assisting other advanced-skilled employees in performing the running repair and heavy repair of all FrontRunner locomotives, cab, and coach systems and subsystems including, electric over pneumatic doors, HVAC, couplers, passenger amenities, communications, air brakes, cab controls, electrical, and diesel engines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ mechanical work experience and/or 1 year technical school/training.
- Knowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance inspection and repair techniques.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic theory and principles.
- Candidates must demonstrate this knowledge by successful passing of the hands on practical exam.
- Able to pass the Rail Service Employee Mechanical Aptitude exam.
- Demonstrate competence in computer systems and operations to include basic level skills on Outlook.
- Able to safely work on energized equipment up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC..
- Be able to acquire and maintain QMP certification.
- Able to be certified as a Qualified Maintenance Person for Locomotive as defined in CFR Title 49 part 238.Able to certify to operate forklift, crane, track mobile, boom lift, scissor lift, and other shop equipment.
- Successful completion of training program and post-training qualification period.
- Candidates must provide required tools (initial tool list on day of hire with more extensive list to be acquired by the end of the probationary period).
- Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and customers and maintain good interpersonal relations both orally and over the radio.
- Able to use hand held radio according to proper protocol.
- Able to acquire and maintain DOT Medical card.
- Have a valid Utah driver’s license.
- Be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years.
- Cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
- Able to perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly and over 51 lbs occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawl and lay on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely work at heights above 16 feet, and constantly aware of surroundings.

Shift: 7:15pm - 5:45am with Sunday/Monday/Tuesday OFF*

Pay Rate: $26.07 - $30.07 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential depending on shift, if applicable. This is a four-year wage progression.
