The position
As RES continues to expand its portfolio of assets and services globally there’s an increasing need to adapt the management and operation of the systems and services that support Operational Technology (OT). To address this need, RES has established a global OT Team.
 
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented OT Deployment Engineer to support the installation of OT hardware across throughout the UK, with the potential for occasional travel in Europe. This role is ideal for someone early in their OT or IT career who is eager to gain field experience and contribute to the successful rollout and maintenance of OT infrastructure. 
It is expected that the applicant will spend a significant amount of time on the road travelling. Most of these sites are located within the UK and Ireland region although some international travel may also be required
 
Accountabilities
  • Travel to Operational sites to deploy OT hardware (e.g., switches, firewalls, edge devices).
  • Follow standard deployment procedures and documentation to ensure consistent and secure installations.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating onsite asset registers, ensuring accuracy and traceability of deployed equipment.
  • Support the OT team in documenting deployment activities, including photos, network diagrams, and configuration records.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and verification of hardware functionality post-deployment.
  • Work remotely with other OT team members to provide remote hands whilst troubleshooting complex network issues
  • Liaise with site contacts and internal teams to coordinate access, schedules, and deployment logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security protocols while on site.
  • Remote troubleshooting, support, and configuration of OT systems and devices.
  • Team administration duties including coordination of deployment schedules, documentation management, and support for onboarding/offboarding processes.
Knowledge
  • Good grasp of networking fundamentals and can demonstrate good understanding of IP Addressing and Subnetting.
  • Basic knowledge of switches, routers, firewalls and servers.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet cabling and physical network setup.
  • Basic navigation and troubleshooting in Windows (especially Server editions).
  • Familiarity with command-line tools (e.g., ipconfig, ping, tracert).
  • Basic understanding of secure access practices (e.g., strong passwords, physical security).
Skills
  • Able to safely and effectively use hand power tools (e.g., drills) following site-specific safety protocols and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and travel schedules independently and efficiently.
  • Calm under pressure and able to logically address and execute resolutions to operational incidents
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
  • Passionate about technology and how it can improve business resilience.
  • An individual of integrity who will respect and demonstrate RES values. Sensitive and intuitive, whilst displaying gravitas and credibility.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
Experience
  • Previous experience in a field-based or deployment role is preferred
  • Exposure to OT environments (e.g., manufacturing, utilities, energy) is a plus
  • Solid IT foundation spanning, with a broad awareness of IT, also spanning Build and Run/ Service Delivery
  • Familiarity with industrial environments or willingness to learn about OT systems and safety practices
  • Willingness to travel frequently across throughout the UK and EMEA region
Qualifications
  • Accreditation or certification relating to hardware and software i.e. CompTIA A+
  • Vendor qualifications or equivalent that show fundamental skills in networking technologies i.e. CompTIA Network +
