Summary:
The Superintendent – Substation/BESS is responsible for project performance, including safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction. They manage the site construction schedule, budget, and daily issues and are responsible for directing substation crews. The Substation Superintendent may be responsible for managing multiple construction projects simultaneously.
Requirements
- Assists Project Manager in providing high-level client interaction and satisfaction with field points of contact.
- Provides excellence in the management and delivery of the project in line with the client’s expectations.
- Develops work plans, means and methods, and schedules to maximize progress safely and on time.
- Advises Project Manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule impacts, etc.; assist in circumventing and resolving such issues.
- Oversees workmanship and conformity with drawings and specifications.
- Oversees workforce scheduling.
- Completes daily and weekly written reporting of work progress and work schedule forecasts.
- Provides information about site activities, including routing, fence crossings, traffic flow, water flow, moving farm animals, and hazards to the Construction Manager.
- Schedules and ensures appropriate staffing for daily construction activities with employees.
- Identifies potential schedule changes, workflow, and staffing issues.
- Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
- Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
- Understands the budget for specific project tasks and meets budget expectations.
- Performs takeoffs, order materials, track inventory, inspect deliveries and communicate with Project Manager to show that all materials are on site and approved when needed to support the project schedule.
- Implements electrical safety requirements, including LOTO, arc flash, proper PPE, etc.
- Manages and leads the craft labor force. Monitors work performance and productivity of crafts so project rules, procedures, safety requirements, and other procedures are maintained.
- Manages subcontractors’ safety, quality, schedule, change management, performances, and coordination.
- Ensures accountability for care and use of company fleet, equipment, and tools.
- Manages quality control program to ensure processes are consistent and implemented according to the plan.
- Provides the required documents, drawings, and other forms to active projects for monitoring and maintaining the EMS.
- Ensures all completion of all required permitting activities before the commencement of work.
- Ensures training is provided and certifications are maintained on field staff to comply with EMS requirements.

- Ensures Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occurs before scopes of work commence.

- Follows technical, quality and safety systems in place and determines appropriate action.
- Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Leadership:

Qualifications:
- High School/GED (equivalent is 6 years' experience) required.
- Associate’s degree in operations or related field or equivalent (4 years' experience) preferred.
- Certification OSHA 30 Training required.
- Certification NFPA 70E Training required.
- 3+ years of more Verifiable experience as a Substation Superintendent required.
- Experience working in a construction environment preferred.
- Experience pouring, setting, and finishing foundations preferred.
- Hands-on testing protective relays (SEL), switchgears, transformers, and circuit breakers preferred.
- Domestic Travel of up to 76%-100%, Valid Driver’s License Required.
Advanced level of knowledge in:
- Drilling, Setting/pouring foundations, Wire cutting, Crane operating
- Safety and OSHA requirements

- Understanding environmental concepts, including permit requirements
- Interpreting state rules and regulations

- Creating logical and resource-loaded project schedules
- Budget Analysis and controls
- Estimating work efforts
- Change orders
- QA/QC processes
- Development of processes and procedures
- Continuous Improvements such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Total Quality Management
- Project Finance
- Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook, Visio)
- Job Costing or accounting software
Basic level of knowledge in:
- Engineering Management
- Scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera 6)
Anticipated base salary range: $116,000 - $150,000
Premium Daily Per Diem paid for food, lodging, rotational Travel (If applicable)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
