Job Purpose

RES provides High Voltage Operations and Maintenance (HV O&M) Services to renewable energy assets in the UK & Ireland. Due to increased demand from our clients, we are looking for an HV Senior Authorised Person to grow and improve this service.

The SAP is a site-based role performing Operation, Maintenance, installation and commissioning tasks on utility-scale solar/wind and battery storage sites and home/office working for other responsibilities. You will hold, or have recently held, SAP status.

You will be based near/travel to operational plants and have a full driving licence - you will be expected to cover sites across Scotland. This is a permanent role and will require availability for weekend and on-call duties, including overnight callouts. 

Accountabilities

Reporting to the HV Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include: 

  • Always adhere to health and safety requirements and help to maintain and improve safety standards
  • Achieve and maintain Senior Authorised Person status.
  • Become conversant and make sure that all works are undertaken observing the RES Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules and Safety Rule Instructions, this will include:
    • Prepare, issue and cancel safety documents
    • Perform switching, isolation and earthing tasks
    • Act as Control Engineer
    • Prepare switching schedules
    • Manage the interface between system boundaries with site and DNOd
    • Produce and review method statements and risk assessments
    • Produce maintenance plans for HV equipment
    • Maintain the asset register
    • Manage and/or deliver planned and unplanned maintenance activities on electrical equipment
    • Produce final reports
  • Perform basic protection testing on HV related equipment. Complex protection relay testing is desirable.
  • Undertake troubleshooting and fault-finding on RES controlled plant/equipment.
  • Manage inductions for sub-contractors and deliver Competent Person Training.
  • Induct and manage in-house staff and sub-contractors, ensure their safe working, and undertake quality checks on their work.
  • Keep in close communication with the O&M office
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders such as DNO and asset owner
  • React to emergencies, site outages and changing circumstances
  • Occasionally work away from home for training courses or to cover RES controlled sites in other geographical areas where required.

Knowledge
Essential: 

  • HV Safe Systems of Work
  • Knowledge of the key legislation underpinning UK high voltage electrical asset operation and maintenance
  • Detailed knowledge of UK industry HV electrical safety rules
  • Detailed knowledge of HV equipment
  • HV maintenance practices including HSG230

Desirable:  

  • Knowledge of solar farm assets
  • Earthing system installation and test. Protection system installation and test.

Skills
Essential:  

  • Strong approach to safe working practices
  • Operate and maintain various types of HV plant/equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good people skills
  • Coordinate multiple activities whilst ensuring safety and quality are maintained
  • Identify problems, conduct analysis and develop solutions

Desirable:  

  • Use equipment for testing and fault finding on HV plant/equipment

Experience
Essential:  

  • SAP Experience
  • Operation and maintenance of HV Equipment
  • Experience in fault finding on HV plant and equipment.
  • Commissioning HV plant and equipment.
  • Basic HV protection testing

Desirable:  

  • SAP Experience at 33kV for DNO's and renewables
  • Complex Protection relay testing and commissioning.

Qualifications
Essential:  

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Previously held SAP authorisation under high voltage electrical safety rules
  • Electrical Engineering HND or equivalent industry experience
  • IOSH Managing Safely or CITB SMSTS or equivalent

Desirable:  

  • Hold or previously held SAP authorisations under DNO Safety Rules
