Job TitleConstruction Project Manager

 

Reporting toProject Director

 

LocationFlexible, but Queensland based preferred, with the expectation of a minimum of one week per month will be based on site.

 

HoursFull-time, Contract Period 2 years

 

 

 

 

The Position

 

The Construction Project Manager is responsible for leading the delivery and completion of the construction phase of a large complex wind farm project in Central Queensland. The role will work within the RES Construction Management team, on behalf of project owners.

 

The role will involve oversight of the project contractors for Principal and related works, management of owners engineer, management of project compliance, cost control and ensuring compliance with the construction contracts, RES management systems, health and safety guidelines and legislation, and all project obligations. The Construction Project Manager will also ensure efficient handover of project to the RES asset management team at completion.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Active promotion and demonstrable achievement of company safety leadership and sustainability objectives.
  • Lead on the delivery of the project through to full Operations and take personal responsibility for delivering the project.
  • Inspire the RES site team to work collaboratively and drive the team to the best for project outcomes.
  • Manage all contractual obligations and processes the project construction contracts, including HSQE, milestones, programming, project controls, variations, performance guarantees, completion testing and handover to generation.
  • Management and qualification of construction risks and escalation where necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring project compliance for investors and RES staff with RES Health, Safety, Quality and Environment procedures and relevant H&S legislation.
  • Manage and report regularly to project Owners on weekly / monthly progress, key risks, mitigation options, commercial and technical strategies, technical issues and key completion milestone events.
  • Manage the construction budget, construction costs, certification and forecasting monthly cost to completion including contingency management.
  • Manage the work of the external Owners Engineer, on behalf of the Principal.
  • Work to ensure a smooth transition of the project into operational asset management, including startup of O&M, securing warranties, testing, monitoring, validation and Defect Liabilities.
  • Ensure that investor requirements are clearly understood and met.

Knowledge

Skills

 

  • Detailed knowledge of wind energy construction processes encompassing civil, equipment and electrical engineering.
  • Understanding of Construction Management from a project Owner perspective.
  • Understanding of project contracts, including Turbine Supply and Install Agreements(TSI), Balance of Plant (BOP), Property Options and Leases and consultancy agreements.
  • Contemporary knowledge of the wider Australian construction industries including relevant regulations and legislation

 

  • Leadership skills within the context of construction sites
  • The ability to communicate clearly and build effective relationships with project stakeholders including landowners, community, project Owners, contractors, subcontractors and other site staff.
  • Effective negotiation skills, with experience of negotiating in a commercial or engineering environment.
  • Ability to manage complex interfaces, risks and stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to manage project contractual obligations.
  • Identification and mitigation of risks

 

Experience

 

Qualifications

 

  • Experience of managing significant complex construction contracts.
  • Successfully managing wind energy projects within resource and budget constraints.
  • Experience of writing and presenting management and progress reports to senior executives, clearly articulating risks and explaining technical issues.

 

  • Engineering, science or commercial degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to travel regularly across Australia during construction periods
