Scientist, Immuno-Oncology in Antigen and Product Discovery Team

Research & Development Cambridge, Massachusetts

Company Overview

Repertoire Immune Medicines is a clinical-stage biotechnology company working to unlock and direct the remarkable power of the human immune system to prevent or treat cancer, as well as autoimmune and infectious disease.  The company is founded on the belief that the repertoire of T cell receptor (TCR)-antigen codes that drive health and disease represents one of the greatest opportunities for innovation in medical science.  Repertoire scientists created and developed the DECODE and DEPLOY suite of technologies, which allow in-depth characterization of TCR-antigen pairs, and the ability to rationally design and develop novel targeted immune medicines.

From its sites in Cambridge, Mass., and Zurich, Switzerland, Repertoire’s team of more than 120 is creating a new category of immune medicines enabled from its DECODE discovery platform.  The company’s first product in the clinic is a novel multiclonal T cell therapy consisting of T cells derived from the peripheral blood, activated against a curated set of antigens, and armed with a proprietary cytokine.  Repertoire is in clinical-stage immuno-oncology development today, targeting metastatic solid tumors.  In the field of autoimmunity, Repertoire is currently using its proprietary platform to discover novel epitopes and TCRs from patients with type 1 diabetes.  The company is also using its DECODE platform to discover infectious disease antigens and responding T cell clones.

Role Overview

We are seeking an innovative Scientist to work in the antigen and product discovery team, identifying and selecting relevant tumor antigens to be targeted by Repertoire’s PRIME T cell therapies.  The candidate will contribute to improving the understanding of targeting and functionality of our PRIME T cell therapy by establishing cancer-specific models for application in support of selection and validation of tumor antigen targets across patients and tumor types.  Both on-target and off-target (safety-related) properties of well-known and poorly studied cancer antigens are of interest.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track-record using single-cell RNA seq and TCR seq to solve complex biological problems as well as a broad understanding of immunotherapies and their applications to cancer treatment.  The position will be partially lab-based, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the candidate will work closely with the departments of computational biology, cell therapy discovery, discovery immunology to identify and prioritize therapeutic targets for clinical development.

The successful candidate will have the ability to independently design experiments, analyze complex data, troubleshoot technical issues, and supervise junior staff.  Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills will enable them to integrate with our highly cross functional teams.  Experimental rigor and scientific curiosity are key!  The ability to work in an accelerated environment and adapt to evolving priorities is a must.  Salary and title will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead effort to prioritize and validate tumor T cell targets for Repertoire’s immuno-oncology program in collaboration with multiple other teams. Contribute to selection and understanding of biological properties of candidate targets.
  • Drive innovative research into antigen-TCR interactions from tumors.
  • Collaborate with the computational biology team to ensure the development of robust pipelines for selection of novel classes of tumor antigens and cognate TCRs.
  • Contribute to the development of functional immunological and analytical methods to characterize the response of the T cell product to cancer specific antigens such as multi-color flow cytometry and sorting, T cell co-culture systems, MHC/peptide tetramer analysis, ELISpot, Luminex, and other related immune assays.
  • Independently plan and execute experimental projects with minimal supervision.
  • Capture primary data and document work as required in Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), maintaining up to date records.
  • Train Research Associate’s to accomplish program and company goals within designated timelines.
  • Analyze, summarize, and communicate data to team leadership and project teams.

  • Ph.D., M.D. in Immunology or Cancer Biology with a minimum of 2 years of working experience in academia or industry; M.S. with more than 5 years; or B.S. with more than 7 years of working experience in immunology/oncology.
  • Expert in the development and application of T cell immunology or NextGen sequencing-related assays.
  • Conduct analysis and develop computational approaches to identify new targets (antigens) and develop biomarker strategy by analyzing high dimensional “-omic” data sets including single cell RNA-Seq, bulk RNA-Seq, TCR-Seq, etc.
  • Strong mastery of large dataset analysis, transcriptomics, sequence analysis including single cell RNA-Seq, bulk RNA-Seq, TCR-Seq, etc.
  • Experience with T cell-based assays such as MHC/peptide tetramer, ELISpot, Luminex, cytotoxicity, and TCR sequencing is a plus.
  • Experience with programming, specifically python or R is a plus.
  • Highly adaptable and responsive to evolving strategic, technical, and business opportunities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven track record of being personable, energetic, accountable, and an effective communicator.
  • Must work well independently as well as an integral part of the team.
  • Ability to work in an accelerated and quickly changing environment.

Repertoire is committed towards social responsibility and developing an inclusive culture.  Much as the power of the immune system lies in the diversity of T and B cells, we believe that our work requires the creativity and ingenuity of a diverse workforce, and we are committed to pursuing that in all facets of the work experience at Repertoire.  We will continue to educate ourselves about the inequities and barriers present in our society and act as a company where we can make a difference.
