Role Overview

The Senior Director, Head of Project and Program Management will report directly to the President of R&D.  This strategic position owns and manages the Repertoire Project Management Office (PMO) and focuses on continued buildout of the PMO to ensure execution excellence and continuous improvement in the way that Repertoire manages Scientific Projects and Programs.  The role will also partner with R&D Leaders to drive the operational aspects of Repertoire’s Portfolio Management processes.  This position requires a hands-on, self-motivated, smart, and emotionally intelligent individual who thrives in a fast-moving, dynamic environment within a complex and fast-changing industry.  This person anticipates needs and demands and works to provide logical, innovative, and creative solutions without explicit instruction.  S/he will be expected to communicate changes in prioritization and decision-making efficiently and be capable of carrying out multiple activities while effectively prioritizing tasks according to the needs of the President of R&D and the Repertoire organization.

What You Will Do:

The PMO will provide project management support to research and clinical stage drug development projects through a model of deployed Project Managers that works alongside Scientific Project and Program Team Leads to deliver on project/program plans and budget.  The PMO provides overall Portfolio support, ensuring alignment across functions and projects.  The Project Managers from the PMO plays a critical role in facilitating the use of processes and tools, risk assessment and mitigation, strategic plans, resource plans, dependency mapping, cross-functional plans, and timelines across their projects/programs.  As the leader of the PMO this role will provide coordination of Project Management support based on company priorities and subject matter expertise to enable optimized portfolio progress.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Project Managers and Stakeholders to drive projects and programs to successful outcomes.
  • Partners with the President of R&D to ensure that goals and objectives are adequately reflected in project and program support as well as in Portfolio execution.
  • Proactively identify and address opportunities for improvements in PMO processes as well as improvements in Repertoire’s Portfolio Management processes.
  • Ensure functional activities are carried out according to timelines and within budgeted costs/resources.
  • Work with Finance and the Platform teams to develop an operational model to integrate aspects of a discovery plaform with clearly articulated deliverables.
  • Develop a holistic portfolio view with rolling forecasting window that enables tracking of project/program progress, capacity planning, budget planning, and strategic partnership opportunities.  
  • Facilitate and support team preparation for data-driven recommendations for key decisions, enabling endorsement by Stakeholders.
  • Work with the Project Teams and leaders to facilitate the Research Review Committee meetings and lead follow up meetings, action items, and key deliverables.
  • Manage monthly updates for the Executive Committee integrating the latest updates, progress reports, quarterly goals, and objectives.

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Master of Science or PhD degree (Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology preferred)
  • Minimum 10-15 years in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, including 8+ years in project/program management, leading cross functional teams across project development.
  • Experience running a PMO in a biotech setting
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks and adjust to changing priorities in a dynamic environment to deliver results to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to think critically, interpret regulations and standards, apply them, and determine resulting course of action.
  • Strong influencing skills including negotiation, meetings management and group dynamics, plus the ability to balance concerns of line management with objectives of cross functional teams.
  • Solid understanding of research and development processes.
  • Ability to rationalize both strategically and tactically and be able to present recommendations to Senior leaders and key Stakeholders.
  • Dynamic, independent, flexible, well-organized, pro-active, collaborative-minded individual interested in contributing to excellent research in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • PMP certification (or similar)
  • Product Management experience
