From its sites in Cambridge, Mass., and Zurich, Switzerland, Repertoire’s team of more than 120 is creating a new category of immune medicines enabled from its DECODE discovery platform.  The company’s first product in the clinic is a novel multiclonal T cell therapy consisting of T cells derived from the peripheral blood, activated against a curated set of antigens, and armed with a proprietary cytokine.  Repertoire is in clinical-stage immuno-oncology development today, targeting metastatic solid tumors.  In the field of autoimmunity, Repertoire is currently using its proprietary platform to discover novel epitopes and TCRs from patients with type 1 diabetes.  The company is also using its DECODE platform to discover infectious disease antigens and responding T cell clones.

Role Overview

Repertoire is looking for an emerging or established leader to join us as a Director of Autoimmune Target Discovery within our autoimmune tolerance platform group.  The successful candidate will take on a lead role in coordinating the discovering novel T cell targets in autoimmune disease, applying our proprietary DECODETM methodologies for interrogating the immune synapse towards the discovery of antigens, epitopes, and TCRs that are relevant in the context of autoimmune diseases.  As a team lead and project champion, responsibilities will include managing the overall autoimmune discovery portfolio, driving internal DECODE discovery projects, managing external collaborations, managing scientific staff, as well as contributing to and/or leading the evaluation and prioritization of autoimmune diseases for candidate selection and development. 

Reporting directly to the head of the autoimmune tolerance platform group, the candidate will lead discovery efforts and a small team of program leads focused on autoimmune discovery projects, will work closely with the technology teams focusing on the development of antigen specific therapeutic modalities for autoimmune disease, and will consult with the preclinical biology team responsible for model development and eventual preclinical validation of candidate therapeutic approaches.  Additional integrations and interfaces will be across the broader DECODE technology ecosystem and into adjacent technology teams working on Repertoire’s other therapeutic modalities.  Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills along with experimental rigor and scientific curiosity are key!  The ability to work in a matrixed team environment and adaptability to evolving priorities are a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in driving our discovery strategy in autoimmune diseases across liver, skin, neuro, and gastro-disease areas.
  • Lead a team of Ph.D./postdoc trained scientists responsible for managing additional autoimmune discovery programs. 
  • Serve as a lead for one or more DECODE translational discovery projects.
  • Manage external collaborators, KOLs, vendors, and external technology providers to enable DECODE discovery projects in autoimmunity disease areas.  Identify new collaborators and establish enabling relationships with academics, industry, and disease advocacy groups.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder for further development of our DECODE technologies as applied to autoimmune disease.
  • Contribute to cross functional efforts to research, evaluate, and prioritize therapeutic disease areas for internal candidate development.
  • Engage as a core team member working closely with the technology and pre-clinical teams responsible for therapeutic platform development for autoimmune therapies contributing ideas and consulting as appropriate.
  • Prepare presentations for internal and external stakeholders discussions.
  • Contribute to strategy development for the tolerance platform group reading the literature, surveying the competition, and participating in ongoing internal discussions.
  • Be an active participant in building the company and group culture.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Autoimmune Biology, or adjacent disciplines.
  • 10+ years post graduate experience in biotech/pharma industry or academia.  5+ years of industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with drug discovery and preclinical drug development practices and strategies for immune therapies in cancer, infectious disease, or autoimmune disease.  Exposure to design and conduct of IND-enabling studies is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with autoimmune disease biology in either mouse models or translational human research models.  Translational research experience is preferred.
  • Experience in managing scientific staff on discovery projects.
  • Experience working with external collaborators is a plus.
  • Familiarity with methodologies for TCR specificity and repertoire analysis is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, personal organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
  • Team player able to work in a matrixed and quickly changing environment.
  • Balance creativity and science with delivery on key milestones within defined timelines.
