Our Maintenance operator is responsible for maintenance of all emulsion and asphalt terminal equipment. The ideal candidate will operate and understand all plant equipment. Must possess the ability to enter confined spaces and operate pressure washer and vacuum equipment. This position will be cleaning tanks, boilers, trailers and all related equipment.
Essential Job Functions
- Loading and unloading of emulsified asphalt and binder trucks, tack pots and spreader trucks.
- Performing routine maintenance and applying preventive measures to all plant equipment.
- Unloading chemicals, supply trucks and railcars.
- Operate all boilers, heaters, oxidizers, and any other plant equipment.
- Drains tank, connects hose to water or steam lines, and washes walls, roof and bottom of tank to flush residue such as oil, acid, grease and sludge through tank openings.
- Scrapes and scrubs walls to remove scale.
- Sweeps up debris and shovels sludge into buckets or wheelbarrows.
- Removes liquids from tank bottoms with squeegees or pump and suction hoses
- Manufacturing of products through use of the mill or soap batch process
- Sampling and testing of asphalt and emulsified asphalt products to meet all AASHTO specifications.
- Basic written recordkeeping.
- Daily Tank level readings.
- Participation in safety meetings.
- Adherence to all environmental, health and safety rules, policies and procedures.
- Basic housekeeping duties (cleaning up litter, spilled products, bathrooms, and offices).
- Work overtime as required.
- Report to work daily and on time.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English.
- Ability to utilize a calculator for basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to acquire OSHA 10-hour safety training.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Understanding of basic boiler or Hot oil heater operations and maintenance (chemicals and water testing for boiler operation); and
- Ability to self-start, motivate and work with little direction and ability to work in dirty adverse work conditions.
Required Education, Experience and Licensing
- High School Diploma
- Ability to acquire a license for Forklift Operation (OSHA); and
- Current state automobile driver’s license and a reliable vehicle, potentially for work-related travel.
