Senior SCADA Engineer, Engineering & Construction

Principal Role & Responsibilities
General Role:
  • Act as the Recurrent Energy SCADA subject matter expert.
  • Support discussions with internal groups, equipment suppliers, consultants, telecom service providers, and EPC firms regarding SCADA integration and specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements in SCADA, telecom, and networking for utility scale renewable energy facilities..
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams: Development, Project Engineering, Performance, and IT/OT to drive and customize SCADA procedure and system development.  
  • Be responsible for contributing to the contract technical exhibits for telecom, SCADA, communication, or equipment requirements.
  • Assist with specifications for telecom services.
Technical Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain SCADA standards for Recurrent's future operations.
  • Ability to evaluate, critique, or create technical specifications of appropriate SCADA equipment tailored to specific projects.  
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and configuring TCP/IP, modbus, DNP3, RTAC points, owners rack configurations.
  • Develop future SCADA site additions, improvements, and enhancements.
  • Review and comment detailed SCADA scopes of work, design packages, and documents originated from others.
  • Support the preparation and revision of existing and future technical documentation exhibits.
  • Solicit proposals from SCADA suppliers/vendors/subcontractors. • Work with Substation, PV, BESS, and O&M vendors to streamline communication around SCADA requirements.
  • Assist construction during commissioning and performance testing before COD. • Support troubleshooting efforts by internal teams for active sites.
  • ]Able to decipher and explain fault event recordings using .rdb files and appropriate software.
  • Proficient in creating RTAC points lists.
  • Ability to contextualize and explain detailed single line diagrams, network and communication diagrams,
  • Understanding of NERC, FERC, regional ISO networks and other regulatory requirements determined by region.
  • Travel to troubleshoot SCADA and communications equipment when necessary.
  • Attend trainings provided by appropriate providers and manufacturers online or in-person.
  • Provide technical training to cross-organizational internal groups to promote continuous learning
Financial & Organizational Scope
  • Collectively responsible for project budgets of $100 – 500 million
  • Communicate and influence cross-functionally within Recurrent Energy.
  • Responsible for consultant scopes and associated cost
Reporting Relationships & Interactions
  • Reports to Engineering Manager, Project Engineering
  • Works cross functionally and collaboratively with all departments
  • Manages consultant work orders to ensure scope, schedule, quality and coordination requirements are met.
  • Interfaces with third-party engineering service providers, and subcontractors
Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 and IEEE 2030.5 Communication protocols.
  • Proven experience in liaising with utilities, EPCs, and equipment vendors.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and design optimization.
  • Understanding of Plant IP and port networking assignments a plus.

Experience & Education
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s of science degree in an Engineering or Technical field described in summary.
  • 5-7 years progressive experience.
  • Professional Engineer or equivalent regulatory body license is a plus.
Other Comments

Your responsibilities span from creating and modifying technical specifications, itemizing specific equipment procurement, and interfacing frequently with internal departments to interfacing with EPC’s, contractors, and utilities to drive technical dialogue. Equipped with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Communications, or similar degree and minimum 5 years of industry experience. Your role will be pivotal in project execution, implementation of new ideas, and future plant operation in the renewable energy sector. This position must be geographically close to one of our North America offices in Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ; New York City, NY; or San Francisco, CA.
