Position Title:Manager/Senior Manager, Grid Stategy & Analytics 

Department:Development 

Reports To:Associate Director, Grid Stategy & Analytics 

Location:Priority is given to candidates who can work in a flexible hybrid model from one of our offices in San Francisco, New York, Austin, or Guelph (Canada). In addition, monthly travel may be required to either a project site or our headquarters in Austin.               

  

Position Summary 

Responsible for managing the technical portion of the utility interconnection process for Domestic and International utility scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants and other clean energy facilities typically to the integrated transmission system. Responsibilities extend through multiple phases of the project development process, including siting, interconnection application, study process management, negotiation of interconnection agreements, grid integration, construction, and testing. 

  

Responsibilities 

  • Own and lead all aspects of the utility interconnection and grid integration process for new power plant projects
  • Provide input to the early-stage development process regarding strategic interconnection siting and interconnection facilities
  • Develop workflows and internal processes as well as managing relationships with internal customers and external resources.
  • Manage external consultants performing interconnection modeling and studies including load flow studies of current and future utility system conditions.
  • Provide strategic, market, commercial and technical input to the Development, Engineering and Construction teams regarding the development, grid integration, and interconnection of the company's project pipeline.
  • Become knowledgeable with relevant interconnection tariffs for key domestic and international utilities and system operators
  • Represent Recurrent Energy and actively participate at utility and ISO technical policy stakeholder meetings, working groups and renewable trade groups.
  • Manage and train junior engineers in performing electrical studies as well as reviewing and analyzing utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, and Facility Studies.
  • Collaborate with EPC firms to ensure reliable and cost-effective electrical design of contracted plants

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 

  • Knowledge of utility system operation, and interconnection process
  • Detailed knowledge of power load flow modeling and results
  • Working knowledge of high voltage equipment
  • Ability to provide concise feedback on technical subjects to non- technical personnel
  • Familiarity with SCADA equipment & communications
  • Ability to develop scopes of work for outside consultants and contractors
  • Professional with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude

  • Strong organizational skills enabling candidate to manage many projects simultaneously

Requirements 

  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of high voltage electrical system experience, preferably with a utility, system operator or independent power producer
  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years experience with managing the transmission interconnection process for power plants (wind, solar, or thermal)
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar engineering background) with an emphasis on Power Systems preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (Electrical) license preferred
  • PSSE, Aspen, PSCAD, or PSLF modeling experience preferred
  • Python development experience preferred
