Description

Responsibilities:

· In conjunction with the Senior regional management, lead the origination, negotiation, execution and closing of PPA contracts (physical and virtual) with offtakers in Japan.

· Alongside regional peers, target and manage relationships with corporate off-takers that are willing to procure renewable energy. Take lead in the putting together proposals to the approved candidates.

· Demonstrate mastery across key energy and environmental markets in Japan, including but not limited to JEPX, EEX, capacity and balancing markets as well as certificate markets. Deep knowledge regarding FIT/FIP program is also mandatory.

· Lead regulatory strategy associated with markets, including the participation in fit for purpose government consultations.

· Co-lead the commercial relationship with all related stakeholders in the Energy Storage System (ESS) downstream business, including OEMs, system vendors, aggregators, market advisors, lenders, etc. in conjunction with senior regional managers.

· Actively maintain adequate knowledge related to market intelligence including latest PPA trends / pricing / structures, government auctions, relevant regulations, competitor information, offtake candidates. Convert knowledge to on-going educational materials for the broader Japan team

· Ensure fit-for-purpose valuation inputs are utilized for all transaction pricing activities;

· In collaboration with the Finance team, ensure on-going knowledge / development of key bankability issues to address within relevant forward contracts (PV, BESS, structured transactions).

· Support the on-going management of ad-hoc market / pricing databases;

· Develop and optimize spot / forward trading structures (if applicable)

Qualifications and Experiences:

· 5-10 years of work experience in Japan power market with large utility, financial institution / bank, developer or market advisor.

· Previous experience within large scale (front of the meter) PV Solar and/or renewables / Storage.

· Experience with renewable PPA transactions, PPA structuring and contract negotiations.

· Existing market relationships with regulators, advisors, and offtakers.

· Previous experience analyzing power markets and relevant regulations.

· Strong analytical, stakeholder management and lobbying skills

· Advanced numeracy skills; including basic coding (Excel VBA and / or Python preferred)

· Understanding of project financing and bankability issues

· Languages: Native or fluent in both Japanese and English
