We are currently recruiting for a MS SQL Database Administrator/Developer based out of our corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois.

The MS SQL Database Administrator (DBA) / Developer position will be a member of the ReaderLink IT Data Administration and Integration team. This position requires experience with the support and maintenance of databases to preserve the security and integrity of company data resources, including new development and enhancement of automated processes for future growth and implementation of industry best practices. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Install, configure, and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring system health and performance, to ensure high levels of security, performance, availability, and resilience.
  • Respond promptly to and resolve database-related alerts, emails, and tickets.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain processes using T-SQL, PowerShell, and SSIS.
  • Maintain schema changes and scripts using version control (Visual Studio, TFS, DevOps).
  • Create, document, and execute test plans, including white-box testing, black-box testing, positive and negative testing.
  • Follow established team standards. For any gap, recommend new or updated standards. Be proactive in identifying areas of improvement.
  • Document and update processes and procedures when appropriate.
  • Take ownership, support, and follow through on assigned deliverables, adjusting well to changes in priority.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and commitment to learn.
  • Develop accurate estimates of effort and timelines. Ensure that all assignments are completed accurately and within approved delivery schedules.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Work closely and effectively with business and technical teams in a cross-functional and cross-matrixed business and technical environment.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities, including off-hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide off-hours support, including weekends and holidays, on rotation.
  • Other duties may be assigned, directed or requested.


What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Information Technology or related field) or equivalent administration experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree (Information Technology or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of MS SQL Server database administration experience, demonstrating experience/knowledge of typical DBA tasks, including:
    • Backups, restores, recovery models, patching, disaster recovery.
    • Implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance.
    • Security, data and schema standards and concepts.
    • Performance Tuning & Optimization, indexes, index management, and statistics.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of MS SQL Server development experience.
  • Strong proficiency with T-SQL programming (joins, views, stored procedures, functions, etc.), database design and optimization techniques.
  • One (1) year of PowerShell experience is preferred.
  • An inclination toward scripting and automation, utilizing PowerShell, SQL, or other methods to efficiently target and manage multiple servers within specified timeframes.
  • Experience with SSIS.
  • Experience with MS Azure is preferred.
  • Competency in using Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Word, Excel, Visio).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, anticipates issues and deals with them proactively (Critical Thinking).
  • Be able to effectively present technical concepts and technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Sound judgment and personal integrity.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills and organizational skills are essential to this position.
  • Prepare concise, yet detailed written communication (e.g. documentation, deployment plans, status reports, meeting notes) that may be shared and understood by a cross-functional audience (i.e. technical and non-technical).
  • The work performed is in an office environment.
  • This role is located in Oak Brook, Illinois, and eligible to participate in a hybrid schedule.


Salary: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00
