Storage and Backup Engineer II

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  Responsible for day-to-day monitoring, maintenance and development of the Backup infrastructure throughout our global datacenters.  Storage & Backup Engineers have an extensive knowledge of storage & backup technologies and will handle escalations, and where necessary, work through these issues to resolution with the appropriate vendor. 

  • Shift: 7:00am to 4:00PM either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:  Intermediate technical knowledge in technology troubleshooting methodologies, design, and implementation. Intermediate written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate interpersonal skills, time management skills, problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to resolve problems in a timely manner, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  Basic knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting, testing, and performance tuning in storage platforms.  Basic knowledge of storage and backup best practices for current VMware, Windows and Linux operation systems, Files systems, MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and Exchange.
  • JOB COMPLEXITY:  Works on level I tickets as required. Builds new storage and backup Infrastructure configurations. Performs troubleshooting for host end-to-end connectivity, host-side storage specific software, and non-critical storage component failures. Escalates critical component failures to higher level engineers. Participates in a weekend coverage rotation with peers.  Strategic planning for improving processes and procedures. Assists with projects to improve performance, efficiency, experience, and capacity of environments.  Resolves escalated customer issues.
  • SUPERVISION:  Operates under general supervision.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Requires 4 year of information systems experience and system administration experience indicating an intermediate understanding of storage and backup technology.  Minimum 1 year storage and/or backup experience and experience in a customer service oriented position.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  General office environment.  May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor.  Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.  No special physical demands required.  Occasional domestic travel, less than 10%.
