We are seeking a Manager, Network Defense to join our team in San Antonio, TX!

The Network Defense Manager is responsible for building and supporting a team of highly motivated individuals in their pursuit of excellence.  Provides leadership for key cyber security functions such as network architecture, escalations, staffing/hiring, training, development, as well as providing indirect leadership for cyber security staff residing in other teams. While rooted in cyber security, the scope is to work cross functionally on business issues that affect and improve Rackspace as a company, in addition to their team’s goals.

  • Excellent knowledge of cyber security operations with a solid understanding of security vendors and tools including but not limited to, Alert Logic, Imperva, RSA, Duo Security, Cisco, F5 and Palo Alto.

  • Strong management and people skills with the ability to engage and motivate staff to drive results.

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction for the delivery of support to customers.
  • Plans, directs and controls the development and assigning of work among teams and leads team staff, providing support, direction, and coaching.
  • Manages personnel activities of immediate staff (i.e., hires, mentors, trains, appraises, rewards, motivates, disciplines, recommends termination as necessary).
  • Oversees team operations and reports to senior management.
  • Drives and establishes departmental standards and procedures.
  • Oversees adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Strategically analyzes systems, operational processes, and procedures and performs assessments to identify opportunities for improvements and value added to the customer/clients.
  • Uses professional concepts; applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of complex issues.
  • Monitor and maintain quality control standards.
  • Works with finance and other leadership to develop and manage a multimillion dollar budget.
  • Seeks out new strategic solutions in an effort to improve Rackspace performance.
  • Expected to think 12 - 18 months out strategically with an excellent understanding of the challenges and gaps while providing the necessary leadership by aligning with other leaders and by directing their immediate team to deliver and help achieve the strategic vision.
  • Serves as a primary liaison among various business groups within Rackspace, representing both the Department, as well as broader Rackspace goals.


  • Manages small to medium sized teams.

  • Assist with the creation of career plans for developing Network Defense staff.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, MIS, Technology or Computer Science. At the manager’s discretion, experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Possesses a minimum of three to five years working knowledge of a technology-based service-oriented industry as a people manager/leader.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in running medium to large scale projects with varying complexities.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently provide FANATICAL support.
