PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Cloud Solutions Architect is the front- line expert at working with Rackspace's customers, sales teams, solutions engineers, and product development/management groups. The candidate that will fit best into a Cloud Solutions Architect role will have extensive experience in design and development of business applications and Cloud specific solutions. The Solutions Architect will design futuristic solutions with currently available technology and take responsibility for the quality of the solution. The Cloud Solutions Architect will work with Rackspace's sales teams to understand the customer's business and technical objectives and then design solutions that leverage existing supported Cloud technologies. Where existing solutions do not exist, the Solutions Architect will work with product management and product engineering to help implement new standards and new processes that allows Rackspace to solve for the customer's needs.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: The AWS Cloud Solutions Architect role is a specialized technical knowledge role that can quickly learn new concepts. The ideal candidate for a AWS Cloud Solutions Architect Role is an industry contributor that has previously worked in the AWS Enterprise Architect (or similar) role and will meet the following requirements: 

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of the AWS Cloud portfolio and the Rackspace services that support the AWS Cloud platform.
  • Have a strong understanding of the AWS Cloud IaaS and PaaS services such as RDS, Redshift, EC2, S3, lambda, IAM, CodeDeploy, CFT, API Gateway and other AWS services.
  • Bring strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently create solutions and work with others on a team.
  • Have experience and deep knowledge in designing environments that adhere to the AWS Well-Architected framework.
  • Experienced in using CI/CD tools and RESTful API's and DevOps concepts and practice
  • Have familiarity with programming and architectural frameworks.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills and be adept in time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize customer opportunities, training, and initiatives through highly effective time management. Excellent problem solving, analytical, presentation, and white boarding skills.
  • Have basic knowledge of Azure and Google Cloud service offerings.
JOB COMPLEXITY: The role of a AWS Cloud Solutions Architect is extensive. AWS Cloud Solutions Architects will lead customer workshops to educate customers on specific technologies and concepts. AWS Cloud Solutions Architects are a supplemental point of escalation on highly specialized and high profile customer engagements that require advanced guidance to sales and solutions engineers on specific technologies or concepts. The AWS Cloud Solutions Architect is expected to be a trusted adviser that conducts deep-dive customer sessions to translate existing customer workflows into the AWS Cloud ecosystem and then overcome customer concerns. Finally, the AWS Cloud Solutions Architect is charged with influencing the business unit's roadmap by interacting with product managers, product engineers, support, and senior business unit leaders where the AWS Cloud Solutions Architect presents customer needs and proposed product changes that help maintain Rackspace solutions as the superior services offerings.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: 
  • Bachelor's degree is required. A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business preferred.
  • 4+ years of solutions engineering experience or experience working as a solutions architect working with cloud technologies such as AWS, Openstack, Azure, Google, etc.
  • Sales training & advanced technical training across multiple technologies within a single domain (Cloud, Security, DevOps, etc).
  • At least TWO industry certifications required: Linux+, Azure, AWS, RHCSA, RHCE, MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, OpenStack, Google, etc.
  • IT Industry experience or exposure to technologies and applications such as Docker, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, configuration management, kafka or kinesis, Zookeeper, WordPress, Magento, and Hybris are a plus.
  • Experience may substitute for the degree requirement at a rate of 3 years' experience for 1 year of education. High school diploma or equivalent required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office environment. May require extended periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. Considerable levels of stress may occur at times. No special physical demands required.
