The Rackspace Accounting and Payroll team is looking for a Payroll Tax Analyst with passion for the latest cloud technologies to develop their career at the #1 Managed Cloud Company.  The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for assisting in all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, federal, and global regulations.Monitors payroll tax business processes and identifies process improvement opportunities.  Processes payroll tax activities in accordance with guidelines and legal requirements. Reconciles payroll tax reports and financial data.  Processes and records payroll tax data accurately and on a timely basis.  Audits and produces payroll tax-related documents and reports for management.  Compiles financial and payroll tax information for contribution to reports.  Prepares monthly, quarterly, and yearly tax reports for management as needed.  Monitors the payroll tax accounts to ensure accuracy.  Records and processes off-cycle payroll tax corrections and adjustments as needed.  Processes complex payroll tax calculations accurately and under strict deadlines.

Job Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Responsible for the accurate tax setup and verification of tax elections for new employees in Workday (GPS). 
  • Responsible for auditing the setup of new tax jurisdictions, account numbers, and tax rates as well as updates to current tax codes and rates in Workday (GPS) by our third party vendor. 
  • Responsible for working with third party vendor to ensure accurate and timely remittance of payments and filings for all tax jurisdictions. 
  • Manages the setup of new jurisdictions/states with the proper authorities and communicating that to third party vendor.  
  • Will be responsible for regular audits of tax/unemployment rates in GPS compared to TaxEx (3rd party vendor system). 
  • Responsible for management of tax and unemployment notices and tax tickets with our third party vendor. 
  • Various audits of local, state, and federal filings including 940 and 941s.
  • This role will work under minimal supervision and provide weekly updates to the Payroll Manager regarding outstanding tax issues. 
  • Will collaborate with their Manager to escalate highly sensitive tax issues. 
  • Act as point of contact for all tax questions and tax-related report requests. 
  • Handles all payroll processes for our expat employees.  
  • Responsible for year-end processing, reporting, auditing, and W2/W2C preparation.
  • Works closely with third party vendor on W2 preparation and mailing. 
  • Responsible for the accurate documentation of payroll tax procedures. 
  • Understand and maintain internal controls and assist with the preparation and update of control self-assessments for SOX compliance as well as third party/external auditor requests as needed. 
  • Backup payroll processing team as needed.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business preferred.
  • Requires 3+ years of recent payroll related experience in a multi-state payroll environment applying federal and state laws and regulations. 
  • Global payroll experience preferred.  FPC or CPP designation preferred. 
  • Workday Payroll experience preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of payroll practices, principles, and regulations. 
  • Intermediate working knowledge of multi-state tax regulations and compliance. 
  • Understanding of accounting functional areas and their interaction with payroll services.
  • Skilled in math applications.
  • Excellent time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, multi-tasking, prioritization, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, self-aware, customer focused, and ability to learn new tasks quickly. 
  • Must be highly organized and able to maintain discretion and confidentiality with sensitive payroll and HR data. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, with good analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with all Microsoft Office software. 
  • Global tax knowledge a plus.
  • Expat knowledge a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide FANATICAL support.
