Senior Consulting Architect

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Consulting Architect role is a recognized subject matter expert and thought leader with deep expertise in migration and data center consolidation to managed services for enterprise customers requiring technical consultancy as part of their Rackspace relationship.

This position will be working with diverse presales, sales, technical consultancy, project management, support and partner teams ensuring customer business needs are technically translated and delivered through your consulting engagements. Engagements will be primarily focused on migration (transition), transformation and infrastructure consolidation, but may also include automation, optimization, and lifecycle services.

As an experienced technical consultant, you will be leading teams that are accountable for customer technical project propositioning, scoping, design and delivery. You will be accountable for the technical outcomes of your engagements.

SCOPE: Large Scope

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: Orchestrate and lead professional services presales and delivery efforts inclusive of holistic IT migration, optimisation, consolidation, and transformation solutions for FTSE 500 customers inclusive of discovery, analysis, planning and delivery. Lead and facilitate group white-boarding sessions to articulate Rackspace solutions and professional services methodology. Manage a broad range of activities including the coordination of several internal departments and 3rd party partners to structure realistic, innovative and cost effective solutions to meet customer objectives and expectations in a timely manner. Communicate with project managers, extended Rackspace teams and partners during presales and project delivery to ensure timely delivery and awareness of potential problems or risk requiring resolution or mitigation.

JOB COMPLEXITY: Technical Consultancy

  • Understand complex IT and business customer challenges and provide thought leadership internally and with customers in a consultative manner in the application of Rackspace technology and product portfolio to solve business and technical problems.
  • Scope, plan and deliver consulting engagements as overall technical authority across a number of the following topic areas using internal and 3rd party resources and tools:
  • asset & application inventory discovery
  • infrastructure snapshot
  • virtualization & consolidation scenarios
  • capacity & performance analysis
  • backup, storage, and disaster recovery
  • target platform & service level mapping
  • migration assessment, planning and execution
  • integration & dependency mapping
  • application architecture, risk & complexity profiling
  • application modernisation
  • automation and software lifecycle
  • Advise and support other consultants and project managers in their delivery of customer engagements with specialist expertise.
    Lead and support the installation, configuration, provisioning, maintaining, & monitoring of servers, storage, networking, and software tools for data collection and analysis.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of wider market transition and transformation methodologies, tools and techniques. Provide thought leadership best practice in these areas within Rackspace.

Pre-Sales Engagement & Commercial Expertise

· Lead and deliver the sale of multi-phased complex migration and transformation programs that address technology, people/organization, and process.

· Contribute to a wide range of presales efforts and delivers proposals, RFP/RFI responses, ensuring realistic, innovative and cost effective solutions to meet customer objectives and expectations in a timely manner.

· Produce and articulate sound commercial and technical proposals inclusive of professional services as the means to help customers realise the value of Rackspace.

· Generate and negotiate Statements of Work (SoW) in conjunction with others.

· Contribute to commercial negotiations for professional services statements of work with Customers.

· Lead / contribute to opportunity qualification.

SUPERVISION: Little instruction on daily work, general instruction on new assignments.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: 12+ years of Enterprise IT consultancy or professional services experience including one or more of the following:

  •  Infrastructure implementation or operations
  • Application / platform migration
  • Enterprise / Application Architecture
  • Virtualization / Windows / Linux systems
  • Data / Storage / Networking
  • Automation / Software Lifecycle Management

o 12+ years working in a project environment, in a supplier, vendor or consultant capacity.

o Previous experience working for a managed hosting provider

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office environment. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. No special physical demands required.

Willingness to overtime is required; Occasional weekends and evenings required, especially during close, if required to meet deadlines. Limited Travel Required.
