Cloud Technical Consulting Services Lead

Rackspace is seeking a Professional Services Cloud Technical Consulting Lead to work out of our Melbourne or Sydney offices. This person will serve as the leader of a group of highly skilled technical people, scoping and delivering bespoke project orientated engagements focused on helping customers with Rackspace technologies and services.


You will be working with diverse presales, sales, project management and service delivery and support teams ensuring engagements for prospective and existing customers are properly defined and executed. Engagements may include infrastructure consolidation, transformation, automation, optimization, and lifecycle services.


As an experienced consultancy leader, you will oversee the successful interaction between Customers and Rackers around their applications and environments. You and your team will have a full understanding and be able to enable best practices of our full product portfolio.


Key Accountabilities

Management & General

  • Management of the technical consultancy team (currently three people).
  • Provide leadership producing exceptional Racker Engagement, standards and performance.
  • Day to management of resource and workload demands of your team.
  • Point of escalation and communication for Program and Project Managers and extended teams during presales and project delivery to ensure timely delivery and awareness of potential problems or risk requiring resolution or mitigation.
  • Ensure internal teams are aware of and understand the capabilities and services offered by the Technical Consulting Services team, and its role / position within Rackspace Technical Services.
  • Create and deliver plans for growth and development of technical consulting services, ensuring forward looking alignment to industry trends and Rackspace product and service offerings.
  • Perpetually seek to improve and refine the Rackspace Professional Services methodology, deliverables, sales collateral, team roles and alignment, educate other internal organizations, empower and educate internal sales teams to sell Rackspace Professional Services.
  • Support the commercialization of packaged services including contribution to SoW templates and financial models
  • Build, maintain and optimise qualification and scoping documentation. Educate other Rackers on qualification and scoping methodology.
  • Build and maintain a network of cross-functional technical resources within Rackspace and across any relative partnerships to allow for higher productivity, increased business, and rapid resolution of problems and escalations.
  • Ability to travel as required (on average less than 30%).


Position Requirements

Technical Consultancy

  • Lead facilitation of group white-boarding sessions to articulate Rackspace solutions and professional services methodology.
  • Advise and support Consultants and Project Managers in their delivery of customer engagements; making sure those people are clear on the steps and methods they should take prior and within a client engagement to ensure the best outcomes
  • Lead, collaborate in and deliver the sale of assessment services, business case development, solution architecture, automation, and multi-phased complex migration programs that address technology, people/organization, and process.


 Pre-Sales Engagement & Commercial Expertise

  • Contribute to a wide range of presales efforts and delivers proposals, RFP/RFI responses and generating Statements of Work (SoW) ensuring realistic, innovative and cost effective solutions to meet customer objectives and expectations in a timely manner.
  • Produce and articulate sound commercial and technical proposals inclusive of professional services as the means to help customers realise the value of Rackspace.
  • Contribute to commercial negotiations for professional services statements of work with Customers.
  • Generate and negotiate Statements of Work (SoW) in conjunction with others.
  • Support the identification, role / service definition, negotiation and commercialization of partner related services in both referral and sub contracted models across all aspects of the business.
  • Lead / contribute to opportunity qualification.

  • Leadership of technical teams, including application of varying leadership skills and traits that create solutions and results to unexpected situations. Ability to make appropriate decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions
  • Consultancy and scoping, including the ability to qualify and understand the route cause of complex business problems
  •  Ability to communicate technical and commercial information and ideas so others will understand.

Technical conversational knowledge in the following areas:

  • Business & Digital Transformation
  • Dev Ops & Containers
  • Data centre strategy & operations
  • Capacity, utilisation, and performance
  • Backup, storage, and disaster recovery
  • Migration & consolidation
  • IT Service Management and Service Delivery (ITIL certification preferred)
  • Common as-a-Service offerings with various service providers across various solution stacks (infrastructure, platform, software)
  • Enterprise IT best practices
  • Strong knowledge of all areas of business operations.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and resolve problems in a timely manner.



(essential) 5+ years of Enterprise IT consultancy or professional services experience.

(essential) 3+ years of Enterprise IT technical consultancy leadership experience including one or more of the following: 

  • Application / Platform Migration
  • Enterprise / Application Architecture
  • Virtualisation / Windows / Linux systems
  • Data / Storage / Networking
  • (essential) 5+ years working in a project environment, in a supplier, vendor or consultant capacity.
  • (desired) Previous experience working for a managed hosting provider
