“The role will be responsible for the creation of an Innovation program within Operations. The role will develop the structure, operating cadence, and evangelism of the program to the Operations team(s).  This is a senior level role that will interact with all parts of the business including leadership with the expectation that the ideas will originate from Operations but may have impacts across all parts of the business, including the creation of new product offerings.”

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Ensures achievement of strategic objectives for a set of innovative program and products. Researches market trends, internal needs, and external pressures. Articulates results in the form of product requirements and programs structured to address the research.  Plays a proactive role in program and product planning ensures the work is differentiated in the marketplace and address the goal of making Rackspace a Great Place to Work. Develops content for internal marketing, communications, engineering, and training to ensure successful launch of internal innovation.  Works to develop an internal program/product offering around Innovation that all Rackers can rally behind, feel they are able to engage in, while delivering positive outcomes for our business and customers.  Where applicable will incubate the creation of new product offerings within Rackspace.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: Invaluable knowledge of the following domains: IT and hosting industry plus product domain. Extensive understanding of business as it relates to the hosting industry (and other areas). Excellent knowledge of product development life cycle (relevant experience in all phases) and how products are developed at Rackspace. Understanding of how innovation can bring together disparate groups to achieve company goals.  Proven ability to manage portfolio of projects. Ability to balance team resource loads to meet commitments and optimize output. Ability to leverage external sources for approaches and methods to build an innovation program/product and measure the effectiveness.  Finally, ability to engage Rackers on multiple levels and through multiple channels to ensure appropriate communication and engagement.

JOB COMPLEXITY: Strategic- Very high, driver of innovation strategies within Rackspace. Tactical- lower contribution. Leads a virtual team of PMs, HR, communications, and PjMs to manage programs and products throughout the lifecycle. Creates strategic vision across multiple domains with longer time horizon and larger scope. Partners with business leaders to align the outcomes of innovation to the needs of Rackers and our Customers.
