DevOps Engineer III

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  Architects solutions using open source and related technologies. Provide automation scripts that offloads repetitive operation tasks.  Ex: installs, deployments, performance tuning, KPI’s, SLA’s, and capacity planning. Contributes to open source tools that assist in build, release, configuration management, deployment and operation of high-availability, high-performance database and big data operations.

  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:  Expert Ansible and scripting ability. Expert automation skills with Ansible or similar. Expert knowledge of Open Cloud APIs and SDKs. Broad knowledge of the following with deep knowledge of several: Python, Ruby, Javascript, Memcached, nginx, nosql, git. Working knowledge of software development methodologies and agile project methodolodies.
  • JOB COMPLEXITY: Supports high complexity environments and internal teams on an as-needed basis. Collaborates with other teams on tools for systems automation. Works in conjunction with multiple teams to make sure that Rackspace infrastructure and customer applications work harmoniously together.
  • SUPERVISION: Operates under moderate supervision.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or related technical field required and 5 - 6 years commercial experience as either a DBA and/or systems administrator with at least 1 year  preferably 2 years of current commercial experience as a DevOps Engineer.  Experience with high-availability, high-performance, open source web technologies.  Experience with cloud platforms, open source databases and caching layers.  At the manager’s discretion, additional experience may substitute for the degree requirement. AWS Certification is a nice to have.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  General office environment.  May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor.  Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.  No special physical demands required. Due to the 24X7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
