Senior Azure Product Engineer, Government Services (UK)

As part of us growing out around Government Product Team in EMEA, we are looking for a Product Engineer who encompasses the breadth and depth of technical knowledge required to create Rackspace's cutting edge, industry leading, compliance-focused government cloud products with a focus around the Microsoft Azure Cloud.


Defines, designs, deploys and supports UK government compliant cloud product offerings based on DevSecOps principles and hyper-scale cloud technologies in support of UK public sector and NHS customers and partners. Works with the customer to ensure their security requirements are incorporated in all designs, while working to provide efficient and flexible solutions.


Serves as a voice of the customer, but also has an interface to many facets of the industry including our hyper-scale cloud partners. Assists in selecting initial set of baseline security controls in line with current NCSC recommendations for the UK public sector and implements controls leveraging automation and repeatable processes. Assists in documenting how each control is deployed and maintained.

  • Subject matter expert on the Azure platform, in particular knowledge and experience of Microsoft deployment blueprints for supporting UK OFFICIAL data on Azure.
  • Has knowledge of cloud services design on AWS, GCP, and/or VMware with emphasis on secure implementation of solutions.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of UK public sector and NHS security policies, standards and practices, such as NCSC 14 Cloud Security Principles, NHS Digital Cloud Security Principles, Cloud Security Alliance 4, ISO/IEC 27001/27018.
  • Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) principles and tenets (confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture concepts including distributed system methodology, topology, and components.
  • Knowledge of network communication protocols, directory services, and security architecture.
  • Knowledge of system administration concepts for Unix/Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
  • Familiarity with IT Risk Management and Compliance as applicable to the UK public sector and health organisations.
  • Ability to work independently on tasks and take ownership of projects.



  • Delivers architectures, product solutions, working prototypes, production ready systems, and provides guidance for complex solutions that enables Rackspace Government Solutions Sales, Support, Security and Compliance teams to maximize speed to market deliveries and align with customer expectations.
  • Assists in defining our end-to-end product offerings including definition, design, build, deployment and high-level support.
  • Internal and external facing SME across all government cloud platforms, providing external evangelism as well as internal training and enablement.
  • Delivers Installed Base Customer Service Blocks for architecture components of government cloud platforms.
  • Maintains close integration with our cloud partners.
  • Provides consultation with leadership and peer groups regarding long- and short-range features and capabilities.
  • Ensures major product architectural designs are secure, maintainable, flexible and cost-effective solutions.
  • Solves complex problems and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Decisions impact the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives.
  • Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
  • Leads others to solve issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business and government trends.
  • Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions.
  • Promotes sharing of expertise through consulting, presentation, and documentation.
  • Assists in training other Sales, Support, Security, and Compliance staff.  Communicates the value of IT Risk, Compliance, and Information Security within the organization. 
  • Continuously validates solutions against additional mandates, as developed, to ensure full compliance. 
  • Assists in training other Sales, Support, Security, and Compliance staff where appropriate.
  • Coordinates cross-functional collaborative working to ensure a holistic approach to security and compliance.
  • Supports business partners where necessary in dealing with current and prospective clients. 



  • Works independently, with guidance in complex situations only.
  • Able to lead some projects or programs within a function and may act as a team leader to coordinate activities of other personnel. 
  • Able to act as mentor for less experienced engineers



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering and a minimum of 6 years of experience in public cloud technologies working as an Architect or similar role required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of practical information security experience in developing and maintaining secure architectures for UK public sector or NHS organisations is preferred. Public Cloud, CISSP, CCSP, CRISC Professional certifications preferred.



  • General office environment.
  • May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor.
  • Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.
  • No special physical demands required.
  • Occasional travel, less than 20%.



  • Must be able to pass a BS 7858 security clearance check at point of hire.
  • Will be expected to obtain additional UK Home Office security clearance to ‘Security Check’ level.
