As a Linux Systems Engineer on the Rackspace Email Infrastructure team, you will have the opportunity to work and build world-class software and infrastructure that provides messaging and collaboration tools for customers worldwide. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Design and implementation of complex architectural design of hardware, software, and/or networking systems for large-scale distributed enterprise systems

JOB COMPLEXITY

  • Ensure completeness of the technical infrastructure to support system performance
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in the enterprise hardware, infrastructure, and email industry
  • Follow and execute Rackspace change management processes
  • Evaluate changes using Risk Priority Number and create Method of Procedures for changes
  • Participate in systems/code reviews and design sessions
  • Present technical talks to internal groups
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis
  • Contribute to and organize central store of knowledge
  • Take full ownership of product life cycle
  • Participate in on-call rotation

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • 5+ years of total experience
  • Requires a minimum of 3+ years Linux systems experience, including systems administration or engineering experience
  • Experience with to advanced knowledge of Linux based OSs and distributions, patching, packaging, monitoring, RAID, security, web servers, cluster management, high availability, systems optimization, auth/directory services, backups, caching, SSL certificates, storage, packet analysis, DNS, HTTP, FTP, SNMP, SSH, hardware, virtualization, networking, firewalls, load balancing, troubleshooting, stack trace analysis, methodologies of design and implementation.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl, etc.)
  • Experience participating in Agile methodologies (Scrum, XP, Lean, Kanban, etc.)
  • Ability to work with little to no instruction on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ability to work alone and in a group environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field preferred 
  • RHCE preferred

NICE TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY

  • Linux programming experience beyond scripting using a language such as C or C++
  • Experience with Internet email protocols (POP, IMAP, SMTP) and email architecture
  • Experience working with a large-scale multi-geo system (1000+ servers)
  • Experience working with Object Storage systems at Petabyte scale
  • Experience managing Hypervisor Management Systems (RHEV/oVirt, VMware, HyperV, etc.).
  • Experience using and managing one or more relational databases (e.g. MySQL).
  • Experience using a configuration management system (Chef, Ansible, SaltStack, etc.).
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment concepts.
  • Experience with non-relational databases (preferably Redis, Cassandra, and Solr)
  • Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ/Kafka/Flume
  • Experience with web servers such as NGNIX or Apache
  • Experience with load balancers such as HAProxy and F5
  • Experience with cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
  • Experience with Docker and container managements systems (Swarm, Kubernetes, OpenShift, etc.)
