BASIC FUNCTION

Under supervision, performs duties in the administration of local desktop software and hardware as well as support the organization’s local area network and assist with wide area network responsibilities.  This support includes the allocation of hardware, software and supplies as well as the enforcement and implementation of computer policies and procedures.

DIMENSIONS

Supports 100+ workstations. Primary responsibility is at one location but travel and support to other locations will be required.

Responsible for the installation and support of hardware and software.

Hardware: workstations, printers, and other peripheral equipment.

Software: Solid Works, Microsoft applications, Outlook email, and other applications which are used for Quanex business purposes.

Solid understanding of the use of technology as it relates to the business applications.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Responsibilities for this role include:

Technical

  • Configures, installs, monitors and maintains IT users’ desktop software and hardware; supports mobile workforce including current versions of Windows and MS Office products
  • Provides consultation to IT users for all aspects of end-user computing and desktop-based LAN systems software
  • Provides technical support and guidance through Tier 2 support and works with network administrators, network engineers and vendors to resolve Tier 3 issues
  • Understanding of technical issues associated with LANs in order to effectively communicate with and guide MSCE technical help
  • Responsible for documenting solutions to problems and developing end-user guidelines. May provide on-site training to users
  • Evaluates, maintains, modifies (e.g., creates macros, templates) and documents desktop application packages, participates in the testing and evaluation of new desktop packages and implements prototypes
  • Consults with and makes recommendations to IT users on selection of hardware and software products to address business requirements
  • PC Purchasing/Setup - Arranges for proper software installation and configuration of equipment supplied to user per corporate direction
  • Support multiple locations and responsible for coordinating time at those locations
  • Responsible for site and IT projects as determined
  • Remote support other regional locations with travel up to 10-15% required at times for projects at those locations
  • Work extended hours and weekends as needed

 

 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE

Working under limited supervision the Client Technologies Analyst II is responsible for duties in the administration of local desktop software and hardware as well as support the organization’s local area network and assist with wide area network responsibilities.  This support includes the allocation of hardware, software and supplies as well as the enforcement and implementation of computer policies and procedures.

 

The efficiency and availability of the network is critical and directly impacts each locations ability to take sales orders, purchase and receive material, schedule the shop floor, ship product, manage inventories, invoice customers, manage accounts receivable, complete payrolls and close the locations books.

 

A Bachelors degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 3 to 7 years of progressive work experience supporting systems within a mixed application environment is required. Degree may be waived in lieu of commensurate experience.

 

Excellent verbal, written, planning, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills are required.  Must be able to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.  Must be able to manage multiple tasks with deadlines and be able to independently establish priorities.   Must have a thorough knowledge range of computer networking systems and languages, knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise, and knowledge of other available computing and/or network hardware and peripheral equipment.  The incumbent must have the ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, networks, and/or related hardware and software.  Must have the knowledge and ability to enforce federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.
