DevOps Engineer
Summary of the DevOps Engineer
You’ll be responsible for maintaining the stability of our production site, managing emergency response, facilitating a seamless experience for developers, and contributing to the long-term goal of continuous deployment. Security and robust database management are critical in this role.
Responsibilities of the DevOps Engineer
· Ensure continuous stability and availability of our production systems
· Manage and respond to emergencies during off hours, promptly addressing critical issues
· Collaborate with developers to streamline processes and ensure smooth deployment
· Develop and implement strategies to move towards continuous deployment
· Maintain and optimize our backend application performance
· Uphold a strong security posture across all systems and processes
· Monitor system performance and keep health metrics
· Remain up-to-date with the latest DevOps practices and technologies
Qualifications of the DevOps Engineer
· Bachelor's degree or technical degree in computer science or information systems or equivalent experience
· 4 years of experience or related experience (system administration, software development, agile/DevOps practices
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of the DevOps Engineer
· Extensive experience with AWS is required
· Experience with Terraform or other laaC
· Proficiency in relational database management (we use Postgres)
· In-depth understanding of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar
· Comprehensive knowledge of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent
· Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes
· Strong commitment to maintaining high security standards
· Monitoring experience with Datadog, New relic, Honeycomb, or equivalent
· Self-motivated and capable of working independently
- Experience with web technologies in a production environment (e.g. nginx, gunicorn, varnish)
- Strong fundamentals of web infrastructure, including HTTP networking
About the Stack
· our infrastructure is broadly on AWS, including EC2, RDS, ECS, S3, Elasticache, Lambda, SQS, and others
· Terraform is used to codify our infrastructure
· Our core product stack is built on Django/Python and React for our web apps
