We are seeking a Director, Commercial & Transactions who combines strategic judgement, transaction and financial acumen with public sector awareness to help public sector clients navigate complex commercial choices. This is an opportunity to shape commercially important decisions across Queensland while building a distinctive consulting capability from within public sector that strengthens decision-making, transfers knowledge, uplifts capability and delivers lasting public value.

The Opportunity:

The role is within Queensland Government Consulting Services (QGCS), a division of Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC). QGCS partners with public sector clients on high-impact and complex challenges, providing high-quality professional consulting services and strengthening public sector capability.

You will:

  • Lead the scoping of new engagements and manage a pipeline of parallel, complex, high-value QGCS assignments across the Commercial, Transactions and Finance service stream (procurement, transaction advisory and financial advisory). 
  • Work closely with QGCS’s Public Sector clients on large and complex assignments as a trusted adviser, while designing engagements to support client capability uplift, knowledge transfer and practical ownership of outcomes. 
  • Provide senior leadership across concurrent advisory engagements, leading multi-disciplinary projects  
  • Lead, mentor and develop direct and indirect reports within the Division and across wider project teams 
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across the public sector.
  • Develop and mentor consulting talent while contributing to QGCS's continued growth and capability.
  • Shape reusable tools, frameworks and approaches that strengthen public sector capability and deliver lasting public value.

About you:

You are a consulting or advisory leader bringing expertise in commercial and transaction advisory, procurement strategy and transformation, and / or infrastructure and investment advisory. You have experience supporting complex commercial decisions through robust modelling, negotiations, due diligence and risk assessment.  Most importantly, you can translate complex commercial and financial issues into clear, actionable advice. Reporting to an Executive Director you will bring:

  • Deep expertise in commercial and transaction advisory, including commercial strategy, deal structuring, negotiations, due diligence, funding and financing options, commercial risk management and investment decision-making.
  • Strong procurement advisory capability, including procurement strategy and transformation, strategic sourcing, market engagement, RFP processes, supplier evaluation and value-for-money assessments.
  • Advanced financial advisory skills, including financial modelling, pricing and costing, scenario analysis, valuation and financial sustainability reviews.
  • Experience leveraging contemporary digital and AI capabilities to improve project delivery, decision-making and client outcomes.
  • Ability to distil complex commercial and financial issues into everyday language, both verbally and in written reporting.
  • Proven success building trusted client relationships, leading multidisciplinary teams and developing capability through coaching, knowledge transfer and reusable frameworks.
  • Experience operating within consulting, advisory, infrastructure, corporate or public sector environments, with an understanding of public sector decision-making and procurement frameworks highly regarded.
