Purpose of Role   
 
We are seeking a Cloud Infrastructure and Networks Specialist to join our team at QTC. As a Cloud Infrastructure and Networks Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that our virtual IT infrastructure and outsourced networking (LAN, WAN, and internet connectivity) equipment is well maintained and supported, enabling the availability and reliability of the hosted business applications and services. 
In addition, you will provide expert consultancy through the technology design function to non-technical business application owners regarding cloud infrastructure, enabling the progressive transition of core business applications from private cloud to hybrid and public cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities  
  • Act as the owner of QTC’s outsourced cloud IT services, from infrastructure to database layers, including:
    • virtual servers and appliances
    • virtual desktop services
    • cloud storage, including private and public cloud
    • associated services e.g. Backup-as-a-Service, and any associated system software
and local and wide area networking services including:  
  • Switches, routers, and wireless access points
  • primary and secondary (redundant) network connections between QTC offices and outsourced data centres
  • redundant internet connections
  • Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute
  • Remote access services, and
  • Virtual private network (VPN)
ensuring that it:  
  • is available as required by the relevant application availability targets
  • has sufficient capacity to meet the application driven demand
  • is covered by outsourced support agreements commensurate with the business need
  • is regularly maintained with security patches, bug fixes, firmware version upgrades, and
  • periodically refreshed to ensure ongoing supportability is enabled.
  • Work with the technology design and delivery functions to develop and implement a roadmap for the provision, enhancement and ongoing maintenance of in-scope IT infrastructure and networking equipment, ensuring that QTC’s business change governance process is adhered to and aligned with during the implementation phase.
  • Manage and govern the outsourced support and maintenance for infrastructure and networking services through the development and application of account governance frameworks in collaboration with the Procurement team.
  • Contribute to the governance and supplier management of QTC’s primary Managed IT Services provider including:
    • active participation in the agreed Account Governance Framework, in collaboration with Vendor Management and Procurement and Service Management colleagues
    • building and maintaining constructive relationships with delivery team leaders and account representatives for escalation purposes, and
    • escalating instances of under-performance and managing issues to resolution.
  • Prioritise and manage the efforts of the outsourced infrastructure support teams to best align with technology and business drivers.
  • Other duties as deemed relevant to business requirements and within the technical competency of the position.

Qualifications  
Essential  
  • Requires a University Degree in Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
Desirable  
  • Microsoft Azure certification (e.g. AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals)
  • ITIL® Foundation certification (version 3 or above)
  • Project delivery certification (Agile or similar)
  
Experience  
Essential  
  • Minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience required.
  • Delivery of infrastructure and networking services in organisations of similar size and complexity through the management of outsourced service providers.
Desirable  
  • Recent experience in delivering public cloud services through a managed service provider.
  • Experience in delivering technology projects.
