QTC is the central financing authority for the Queensland Government and provides financial resources and services for the State. We manage the State’s funding program in the global capital markets to deliver sustainable and cost-effective borrowings for the Queensland Government, local governments, and other related entities (our clients).

We protect Queensland’s financial interests and deliver better financial outcomes by centralising the management of our clients’ borrowings, cash investments, and foreign exchange.
Purpose of Role
QTC is seeking a Financial Accountant to join the team on a 12 month maximum term contract. The role will be facilitating the delivery of financial reporting and compliance requirements for QTC and its associated entities, while providing valuable insights and advice to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. This role also ensures the completeness and accuracy of financial information by maintaining robust internal controls and processes.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Complete statutory reporting requirements for QTC and other entities as required, including liaison with external auditors.
- Complete applicable month end processes on time, including journal entries and reconciliations, to the desired level of quality.
- Support the Finance Business Partners with analysis pertaining to divisional management reporting, as required.
- Complete work in accordance with appropriate accounting standards and provide interpretation and assistance on accounting standards to the broader organisation when required.
- Perform the daily reconciliation of financial management system data to QTC’s core financial markets platform.
- Complete reporting requirements to Queensland Treasury (Tridata and Opendata).
- Participate in testing for financial management system upgrades.
- Respond to internal and external audit queries and information requirements.
- Prepare financial information for annual publications, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and other stakeholders.
- Assist in the completion of State and Federal taxation compliance and reporting requirements (PAYG tax, payroll tax, FBT, GST and Tax equivalents).
- Identify opportunities and drive business process improvements for areas of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure establishment and maintenance of applicable team procedures.
- Ad hoc tasks as requested by the Director, Finance.

Qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline required for professional roles.
OR
- Relevant experience in similar accounting role
Desirable
- Membership with either CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or working towards.

- Minimum 3-4 years employment with relevant experience aligned to the role requirements (NB: successful candidates are likely to have longer periods of experience).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical finance information to a non-finance audience
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret financial information and use data to provide insights for internal and external stakeholders.
