QTC is the State’s central financing authority and trusted advisor to Government. Our Energy team within the Advisory Division works at the centre of Queensland’s energy sector and energy transition, providing high‑impact commercial, financial and risk management advice.
We are seeking a Principal to deliver strategic, commercial and evidence‑based advice, drawing on their deep experience in Australia’s electricity market, energy trading, risk management and/or infrastructure financing. You’ll lead analytical workstreams, influence senior stakeholders, and develop capability within the Energy team to deliver rigorous, commercial and market informed advice.
Your work will directly contribute to financial sustainability, risk management and energy transition outcomes for Queensland.
You will lead and contribute to projects involving:
- Energy market and sector analysis
- Corporate finance and commercial strategy
- Risk assessment and investment decision support
- Advice supporting government energy transition objectives
What you'll do:
- Deliver clear, evidence‑based commercial and financial advice on energy sector issues
- Lead complex analysis and problem‑solving with high attention to detail
- Present insights and recommendations to executive and board‑level stakeholders
- Mentor and develop junior team members, lifting capability
- Build trusted relationships across GOCs, Government and the broader energy ecosystem
What you bring:
- 8+ years’ experience in advisory, infrastructure / project finance, energy market consulting or similar
- Strong capability in financial modelling, commercial analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑level briefings
- Proven ability to lead and develop others
- Relevant tertiary qualification (finance, economics, accounting, engineering or similar)
- Familiarity and prior experience in Australia’s electricity market, energy trading and risk management and/or infrastructure financing
- Bonus points for energy market modelling tools exposure (e.g. PLEXOS)
