Purpose of Role
QTC is seeking an experienced Principal - Data and Risk Analytics to join the Funding and Markets Division in Brisbane on an initial 12-month contract.
 
As Principal you will uplift data and risk analytics across FMD functions, in particular funding, turnover, investor relations data as well as first line client onlending, asset and liability mismatch risk data, modelling, and scenarios.  Such data and risk analysis across FMD functions will be used to identify trends and insights for effective targeting of effort and focus, as well as support robust decision-making and quality, transparent reporting.  This position would build a close working relationship with data, operations and technology specialists in Business Services and the Markets Risk Team that reports to the Chief Risk Officer.
 
 
Responsibilities include: 
  • Continuous process improvement in relation to FMD data, information and risk analytics across priority areas in funding, investor relations, onlending and balance sheet management.
  • Enhance analytics supporting decision making, including analysis of both historical and potential scenario performance. 
  • Identify gaps, inefficiencies and opportunities for automation and / or further leveraging system capability.
  • Identify, manage and develop first line risk management frameworks, processes and appropriate reporting.
  • Assist in the development and updating of QTC’s long-term data analytical models to identify trends.
  • Conduct industry research and produce periodic internal reports.
  • Work across functions with data, operations, risk and technology specialists to evolve frameworks, methodologies and processes for increased efficiency and integrate new innovations (for example, use of business and artificial intelligence tools) for better outcomes.
  • Develop new first line risk methodologies and procedures by applying high-level problem-solving skills. 
You might bring:
  • Experience in financial markets, funding and/or liquidity, balance sheet, interest risk management, including deep understanding of financial instruments, hedging and derivatives.
  • Data modelling and dashboard design skills.  
  • Strong analytical skills with high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Systems.
  • Problem definition and solving skills, including the ability to understand and break down problems, and assess the root cause and the right solution. 
  • Systems Thinking: The ability to understand the context behind a problem and its relationship to broader trends.  
  • Relationship and influencing skills to advocate and negotiate internally, including at the Executive Management Team level, as well as external relationships.  
  • Strong understanding of regulations and understanding of capital markets
  • Benchmarking, research, reporting and advocacy to a level suitable for presentation to stakeholders.
  • Superior relationship management skills, including proven ability to foster strong, open and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Engineering, Science, Mathematics or related fields
  • Demonstrable experience in Financial Services, Treasury, and transformational programs with team leader experience. 
  • Extensive experience in financial modelling and analytics.
  • Problem-solving skill, advanced financial risk modelling, Python, SQL and/or VBA programming skills
  • In depth understanding of debt, cash and financial risk management products. 
  • Experience in reporting and presenting to Leadership Teams and operationalising strategic requests.
  • Systems and coding skills – SQL, VBA, Python, JavaScript, Excel, Findur, Bloomberg.(desirable)
  • Prior experience working in front office funding, investor relations, balance sheet and/or markets teams.
  • Relevant experience Merging/upgrading systems, products, processes, and methodologies. 
  • Technology Integration and systems implementation.
