Role Summary

As a Senior Manager, Financial Reporting, you will be based in our Vancouver Office, reporting to the Vice President, Finance. This role is responsible for managing the deliverables of the Corporate Accounting team and will oversee 3 direct reports. This role is responsible for optimizing the day-to-day execution of the Corporate Accounting strategy, developing the next generation of talent and enforcing accountability across the team.
 
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and a confident individual who possesses excellent time management & organization skills, a strong sense of ownership, and will have a detailed oriented and analytical mindset. They will be a strong team player and embrace the opportunities to “roll up their sleeves” and “think outside the box”. The ideal candidate will focus on process improvements and best industry practices.
 
Core Responsibilities
  • Motivate the team by mentoring, developing, leading by example, managing performance and empowering direct reports;
  • Responsible for planning, reviewing and overseeing timely and accurate completion of the team’s monthly, quarterly and annual deliverables including consolidation, investor reporting packages, variance analysis, acquisitions/dispositions/JV reporting, legal and tax requirements, internal and external financial statements, the YE audit process, and invoice/cash management approvals including distributions to our Investors;
  • Through collaborative communication, manage the activities of all direct/indirect reports to ensure the timely achievement of department goals, within prescribed policies, procedures and standard business practices;
  • Responsible for streamlining, implementing and maintaining strong internal controls and processes;
  • Proactively identify accounting issues and provide guidance and expertise on complex issues;
  • Leverage all company departments and resources to solve problems and drive results;
  • Liaise with Senior Management, Property Management, Asset Management, Leasing and Investments to ensure the Corporate Accounting team is delivering responsive service, providing assistance and advice as required;
  • Participate as a leader within the organization, which may include leading or participating in committees, recruiting, industry events, and mentoring junior employees; and
  • Ad hoc projects/analysis

Required Skills and Experience

  • 9+ years experience in a related role
  • 4+ years of progressive managerial experience
  • Professional accounting designation required
  • Strong knowledge in IFRS, consolidation/intercompany transactions and preparation of audited financial statements is required
  • “Big Four” accounting experience is an asset
  • Able to develop high performing talent
  • Able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and prioritize deliverables in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • A fast self-learner with a high level of initiative, change and project management skills with focus on process improvements
  • Adapts easily to new projects, processes and changes
  • Strong attention to detail, while having the ability to identify high-level trends and risks
  • Team player with strong communication skills (the successful candidate will work closely with the leads in various locations across Canada)
  • Strong ability to work cross functionally and across time zones
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with asset acquisition, disposition and JV accounting is an asset  
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager is an asset
  • Prior experience in the real estate industry is an asset

    Approximate Salary Range for Role: $110,000 to $150,000/year 
     
    Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
