We are hiring an experienced Workday Technical and Functional Consultant to act as the single point of contact between our HR, Finance, IT and business stakeholders and the Workday delivery team. This is a hands-on configuration role, not a program management role: the successful candidate will have spent the last 10 years working inside Workday tenants, configuring solutions, building and troubleshooting integrations, and producing reporting that leaders actually use.
The role sits at the center of demand and delivery. Requests arrive from many directions and in many forms, from a one-line question about an eligibility rule to a multi-quarter programme of work. This person translates those requests into clear problem statements, sizes them honestly, and then distributes the work across the full delivery group, which spans our internal HRIS team members and our Workday consultant. Part of that judgement is deciding at the point of intake which items should sit with the consultant from the start rather than being picked up internally and handed over later. Equally important is the ability to explain the resulting design back to the requesting team in plain business language, and to the delivery group in configuration terms.
In This role, you will :
Stakeholder Engagement and Requirement Intake
- Serve as the single point of contact for all stakeholder groups raising Workday demand, running a consistent intake process rather than an ad hoc queue.
- Gather, challenge and document requirements from HR, Payroll, Finance, IT and business leaders, converting loosely worded asks into precise, testable problem statements.
- Translate business problem statements into functional and technical design for the team, and translate proposed Workday solutions back into language the requesting team can validate and sign off.
- Maintain a single prioritized demand backlog, agree sequencing with stakeholders, and communicate trade-offs when capacity is constrained.
- Run design walkthroughs, impact assessments and readiness sessions ahead of each Workday release.
Configuration and Solution Design
- Own end-to-end configuration design across the Workday footprint, working hands-on in the tenant rather than directing others from a distance.
- Configure and troubleshoot business processes, condition rules, security groups, domain and business process security policies, calculated fields and eligibility rules.
- Assess downstream impact of every change across modules before it is built, and protect tenant hygiene through disciplined use of sandbox, sandbox preview and production migration practices.
- Define and enforce configuration standards, naming conventions, testing expectations and documentation for the team.
Integrations and Reporting
- Design, build and support integrations using EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio and web services, including error handling, monitoring and re-run procedures.
- Act as the technical authority on integration issues raised by vendors and downstream system owners, and drive root cause analysis to closure.
- Build advanced, matrix, composite reporting, and advise stakeholders on the right reporting approach rather than building every request as asked.
- Ensure reporting and integration outputs respect data privacy, segregation of duties and audit requirements.
Work Sizing, Prioritization and Distribution
- Assess the complexity, risk and effort of each incoming requirement and assign it to the right owner across the delivery group, which includes internal HRIS team members and our Workday consultant.
- Balance workload across internal team members and consultant capacity, track progress against commitments, and escalate early when a commitment is at risk.
- Review the work of internal team members and the consultant, provide technical coaching, and raise the overall configuration capability of the group.
Sourcing Decisions at Intake
- Decide at the point of intake, rather than mid-delivery, which items should go to the consultant from the start and which the internal HRIS team should own, based on complexity, specialist skill requirements, timeline pressure and internal capacity.
- Prepare scope and requirement documentation for consultant-delivered work, review the designs and deliverables that come back, and hold the consultant to quality and timeline expectations.
- Track the split between internal and consultant delivery, and advise leadership on where that boundary should sit as internal capability grows.
Subject Matter Expertise Required
The candidate must demonstrate working familiarity with all Workday modules in our footprint and deep, demonstrable subject matter expertise in the following two areas:
- Advanced Compensation, including compensation and merit plan configuration, eligibility rules, compensation review cycles, bonus and stock processes, matrices and worksheet configuration, and troubleshooting cycle issues under time pressure.
- Integrations, including EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio, web services, integration security configuration, and the operational support model that keeps integrations running.
Your Background :
- Overall 12+ years of experience in HR Systems. Minimum 10 years of experience working exclusively on the Workday configuration side, in a technical and functional consulting or in-house product capacity.
- Working knowledge of all Workday modules, with the ability to reason about cross-module impact rather than treating each module in isolation.
- Subject matter expertise in Advanced Compensation and Integrations, evidenced by full-lifecycle delivery in both.
- Strong reporting capability across advanced, matrix, composite reporting, and comfort with calculated fields.
- Proven experience as the requirements owner or single point of contact for a stakeholder community, including prioritization and expectation management with senior leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to size and distribute work across a mixed-seniority team, and to decide at intake which work belongs with internal team members and which with an external consultant.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical design to non-technical audiences and business intent to technical colleagues.
- Willingness to work the 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm shift and to be present in the Bengaluru or Hyderabad office two days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday Pro certification or partner certification in Compensation, Advanced Compensation or Integrations.
- Experience supporting a global workforce across multiple regions and regulatory environments.
- Experience operating within a shared services or HR technology centre of excellence model.
- Familiarity with ticketing and demand management tooling, and with release governance for Workday feature releases.
If this sounds like you and fits your experience and career goals, we’d be happy to chat. What we offer in return is the opportunity to experience a great company culture with wonderful colleagues to learn from and collaborate with, and also to enjoy:
