Senior Publishing Tools Engineer

THE ROLE:
ProbablyMonsters is seeking a Senior Publishing Tools Engineer to join our game foundations team. Our Game Foundations team is responsible for creating, maintaining, and integrating robust tools and technology into a suite of titles across many genres. This role anticipates and identifies current or future needs, then develops sound and often production ready solutions with limited direction. You will work with teams across the company, in both publishing and development, to increase the quality of our titles and improve developer workflows.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Extremely knowledgeable about Unreal Editor, with experience in plugin development and Game Integration.
- Experienced at shipping games and aware of unique challenges at all stages of development.
- Understanding of cutting edge of technology and game development methodologies.
- Strong desire to improve developer and creator iteration speed.
- Passionate about helping our teams to build exceptional games
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Work with multiple game and central teams to identify gaps in pipelines, tools, and workflows.
- Measurably improve iteration time by automating repeated tasks, sharing resources, and building game agnostic tools.
- Work with multiple game teams to identify gaps in pipelines, tools, and workflows.
- Work with the publishing team to surface data, increase efficiency, and drive company growth.
- Write and implement clear, maintainable, portable code in C++, c#, python and blueprint.
- Help teams understand the tools / technology available, how to make the best use of it in their workflows.
- Work with outsourcing teams to develop content verification and other external pipeline tools.
- Partner with other central tech teams to build out fully automated tooling when needed.
- At times be an embedded resource working closely with the game teams to surface needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years of related or equivalent work experience.
- Shipped or directly supported the shipping of multiple game titles.
- Experience building tools, editor extensions, or pipelines for Unreal Engine (or comparable engine/tool ecosystem).
- Have built tools around middleware products such as (Jira, P4, Backtrace, CDN’s, Jenkins, etc).
- Practical understanding of content workflows: assets, dependencies, versioning, data validation, iteration loops.
- Ability to debug complex issues across engine/editor/tooling boundaries.
- Robust technical writing skills to translate complex systems into straightforward summaries and integration instructions.
- Strong communication skills—able to translate between technical and non-technical teammates in both written and verbal formats.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Deep Unreal Editor extension experience (Slate, UToolMenus, AssetTools, Details customization, Editor Utility Widgets).
- Creative problem solver with desire for expanding area of expertise and skill set.
- Experience with commandlets, automated validation, cooking/build pipelines, and CI integration.
- Familiarity with Blueprints and how content teams use them in production.
- Experience with data-driven pipelines (DataAssets, DataTables, JSON/CSV import/export, custom schemas).
- Experience with backend integration and scaling of tools, building towards end-to-end solutions.
- Strong UX sense for tools (discoverability, safe defaults, helpful error messages).
- Experience with shipping a live-service game or supporting content-heavy pipelines at scale

Compensation:
- This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt (salaried) position.
- The full salary range for this position is $117,000 - $177,000 per year. When an offer is made, many factors are considered, such as your unique experience and skills, where you live, where the work will be performed, what similar jobs pay, and internal equity.
- In addition to base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for additional incentives, such as short- and long-term incentives. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
