PvE Systems Designer

Game Design Bellevue, Washington

At Firewalk Studios, our mission is to spark incredible multiplayer experiences that inspire memorable moments. We’re building a world-class, next-generation game studio where people come first. For us, setting a high-quality bar, creating something extraordinary, and treating each other with trust and respect go hand-in-hand. Creating new worlds that ignite imagination and connection takes a collaborative team of amazing creators. Join us to deliver awesome gaming entertainment, rooted in strong gameplay and inspiring art, that captures the joy of playing together. We are currently working on an unannounced, original multiplayer game that is being published by our partners at Sony Interactive Entertainment and we are actively looking to add passionate, visionary creators who thrive in environments where the “status quo” just won’t do and who genuinely want to be part of a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful team. Firewalk Studios is proud to be part of the ProbablyMonsters family of studios.
Our studio is looking for a PvE Systems Designer who is a mechanically focused designer who has a passion for creating engaging, challenging PVE content. As our PvE Systems Designer, you'll collaborate with the PVE design lead and the team at large to develop, hold, and drive a vision for PVE system design features during development.

  • You're passionate about PVE design in shooters/ action games, and think actively about how it could be improved.
  • Collaborative, low-ego, self-motivated developer.
  • Excited about team-based shooter gameplay, and how PVE can amplify or otherwise complement it.
  • Excellent understanding of, and ability to speak about, PVE mechanical design: how it works, what it does for the game, why it is important, and how it could be improved.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and communicate with the whole team, particularly designers, engineers, and artists, even in a remote work environment.
  • Strong sense of design process: able to drive playtesting; collect & synthesize feedback; and own your iterations.
  • Capable of creating and updating documentation to explore design thoughts, pitch ideas, achieve alignment, and facilitate asynchronous team communication.
  • Independent thinker who is curious about feedback but confident enough to decide whether it's actionable
  • Able to understand, align, and adapt with high level project design goals and IP fantasy.
  • Shows empathy and respect for their fellow team members.

  • You'll work in-engine to develop PVE systems, modes, and experiences, which satisfy clearly defined design goals that you have helped to define and evolve.
  • Iterating on PVE designs and content with the team.
  • Playtesting the game and giving candid notes on how we can improve it
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a designer working on PVE; and/or demonstrated proficiency in PVE design and execution via personal portfolio.
  • You have demonstrated experience using Unreal Engine and Blueprint visual scripting to create shippable content in a larger project.
  • Design experience on a PVP or PVE shooter.

  • Experience creating well-architected UI/ menu elements in Unreal.
  • Strong design understanding of PVP shooters.
  • Strong design understanding of FPS combat principles.
  • Expertise in FPS games as a player.
