UI / UX Lead

Game Design Bellevue, Washington

At Firewalk, our mission is to spark incredible multiplayer experiences that inspire memorable moments. We’re building a world-class, next-generation game studio where people come first. For us, setting a high-quality bar, creating something extraordinary, and treating each other with trust and respect go hand-in-hand. Our collaborative team of amazing creators are crafting new worlds that ignite imagination and connection. Join us to deliver awesome gaming entertainment, rooted in strong gameplay and inspiring art that captures the joy of playing together.

We are currently working on an unannounced, original multiplayer game that is being published by our partners at Sony Interactive Entertainment. We’re actively looking to add visionary creators who thrive in an environment where the “status quo” just won’t do and who genuinely want to be part of a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful team.

Firewalk is proud to be part of the ProbablyMonsters family of studios who recently raised $250 million to secure our future and our team with the benefits of a long-lasting career.

  • You have previous experience working cross-team with game design, engineering, audio, and animation to ensure the final quality bar of the in-game player experience.
  • You can successfully set and maintain best practices for spec and task tracking, art pipeline, implementation, and overall UI team guidance.
  • You have direct experience developing and upholding pipelines without compromising quality, and implementing interfaces within the Unreal Engine (4 or 5).
  • You enthusiastically seek out feedback to understand the quality bar for current and future UI work.
  • You can successfully build a plan, alter it based on feedback and then guide the team to drive those decisions to fruition.
  • You have shipped titles or live updates while overseeing at least some portion of a UI team as well as independently being able to creatively solve complex UX challenges.
  • You enjoy mentoring less experienced designers to improve their craft and help them succeed.
  • You pride yourself in your ability to effectively listen to every member of your team, regardless of seniority, and communicate with them in a way that inspires confidence.
  • You have a passion for games, find time to play, and empathize deeply with our players because you are a gamer at heart.
  • You learn from both good and bad experiences, finding value in playing all types of games.

  • Build features in Unreal from scratch alongside Engineers and Technical Designers.
  • Iterate and meticulously tune your work in-engine to perfect the way it feels and functions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, artists, and other designers to review and plan new feature requests, provide insight on feature implementation, raise concerns on technical limitations and detail how your team will approach building it.
  • Work directly with the UI, Gameplay, and Systems teams on creating visual comps, final assets, and in-engine implementation.
  • Participate in playtests to see how the UI is working in context, as well as collect player feedback on the UI/UX and give notes on the overall game.
  • Meet with your lead to plan career goals for the next year.
  • Identify trends and improvement within the industry-wide UI/UX design space and how those trends should factor into our own designs.
  • Establish a clear, forward-looking vision for the game's UI/UX features.
  • Partner with your lead to create and update our UI/UX Design best practices and corresponding documentation.
  • Support your team and share insight & wisdom with our less experienced Designers.
  • Prioritize UI/UX bugs and tasks so that we are always pushing forward what’s best for the game and the team.

  • Tracked and defined experience in game development or similar industries as a User Interface Lead Designer.
  • Experience with UMG, Unreal Blueprints, and/or similar node-based visual scripting game engines.
  • Excellent communication skills and track record of successful shipped features.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.
